also known as Kate McDonough, Kathryn McDonough
My professional legal career includes successes through both litigation and negotiation, with an emphasis on family law, collections, probate, and contested estate matters. I have extensive experience at all court levels, including Federal District Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, as well as State and County Courts throughout the State of Maryland.
My family law practice covers the full range of divorce, separation, child custody, child and spousal support matters from negotiating simple and complex contractual agreements through negotiation and mediation to litigating complex issues at trial and appeal hearings. I am also a court-certified Best Interest Attorney and a trained Collaborative Law facilitator.
Through my probate and contested estate practice, I have successfully negotiated and prevailed in Court proceedings so that my clients’ rights have been well-protected and bequests made to them ultimately disbursed. I have also been appointed by the Court to serve as a Personal Representative
and Trustee in estate matters.
I, and a number of my office staff, are fluent in both English and Spanish.
In 2011, I was nominated, selected and recognized as a Maryland “Leading Woman”—an award bestowed to a small group of women, all under the age of 40 years, in recognition of their accomplishments to date in their business and legal careers. Additionally, I have been named a 2012 “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine.
My professional memberships include the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland and its Family Law Section; the Maryland State Bar Association; the Montgomery County, Maryland Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association; and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
I am a Montgomery County native and a graduate of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. My Bachelor of Arts (with a double-major in International Affairs and Spanish and a minor in Latin American Studies) is from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. My Juris Doctor is
from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
