Can you sue the postal office for giving out your personal info such and full name and address?
This person had my tracking number and called the post office and after a few phone calls they gave him my address and full name and now hes threatening me and i'm actually afraid for my familys life and mine.
Not sure how you know the information came from the post office. How did he have a tracking number to begin with. Anyway, suing the federal government would be an uphill battle and not the best course of action. If you have been threatened you need to contact law enforcement and look at getting a restraining order.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY CRIMINAL DEFENSE/CIVIL RIGHTS ATTORNEY - 28 Years of Experience
If you were threatened, you call the police
I don't see a civil rights claim here. It's possible your jurisdiction prohibits harassment or stalking behavior. You should confer with an attorney in your area familiar with stalking. And, this web site might provide you with some helpful information: https://www.victimsofcrime.org/our-programs/stalking-resource-center/stalking-laws/criminal-stalking-laws-by-state/california
Unfortunately, I don't think you have a case against the post office for several reasons. You have not suffered injury or damages except for fear of a third party; the post office can claim that the threats were not foreseeable; and his illegal activity supersedes any liability the post office might have had.
I am not your attorney. Avvo and its users acknowledge that no attorney-client relationship is established by using avvo.com. Nothing published in this website constitutes actual legal advice. You should consult with an attorney of your choice who has experience in your inquired field of law. If you are in California and have questions about estate planning, I'd be happy to receive your call.

Do I have to be physically injured ? He has sent numerous messages telling me hes going to harm me, himself and others. I called the post office in Sonoma County and they said to take legal action. I just want to have an idea of how to go about this in a safe way.

I'm mostly just irritated that the post office gave out my personal information without my consent. Is it really legal to just hand out peoples address' like that?
