April Upchurch Olsen

April's practice is devoted to employment and labor law.  She advises employers on a variety of issues including employee discipline and termination, employment discrimination, state and federal leave laws, disability accommodation, wage and hour compliance, employment policies and practices, and non-compete agreements.

April emphasizes the importance of preventative counseling to minimize the risk of costly litigation.  In addition to counseling clients, April litigates single plaintiff and class action cases in state and federal court, and appears before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, and the Department of Labor and Industries. 

April truly enjoys traditional labor law and spent the first several years of her career representing labor unions.  As a result, April has significant experience with organizing campaigns, elections, unfair labor practices, arbitration, and collective bargaining. April has also trained managers and union officials on the principles of just cause discipline, Weingarten rights, protected activity, and lawful election campaigning. Since 2004, April has represented management exclusively.     

April graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2001. While at Northeastern, April served as a legal extern for the Honorable Claudia Wilken, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.  April also served as a law clerk for the Public Interest Law Firm, the City of Berkley, and for the labor law firm of Leonard Carder et al.  During these clerkships, April worked on a variety of Constitutional and employment and labor law matters.
