Nicole Prebeck

My name is Nicole Prebeck. I graduated in 2002 from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Psychology and then from Salmon P. Chase College of Law with a JD in 2007. Attending UK was a dream of mine and I was thrilled to receive my undergraduate degree in 7 semesters and have some time off before attending law school.

I was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in October 2007. Upon graduation, I served as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. JoAnn Wise (Ret.), Chief Judge, Fayette Family Court until August 2008. Since 2008, I have practiced in the area of domestic relations/family law. I am also certified as a Family Law Mediator by the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts. In order to obtain such certification, I took a 40-hour mediation course, taught by AOC, and then co-mediated with a certified mediator for 15 hours.

Additionally, I am a trained parenting coordinator. My training was completed at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. In addition to practicing family law, I served as the co-chair to the Fayette County Bar Association’s Domestic Relations Practice section 2011-2012. I also serve on the Fayette County Bar Association’s Modest Means Panel, which is a service that helps people gain access to an attorney at a reduced rate (sliding scale) when they could not otherwise afford legal counsel.

As of early 2018, I have added the service of being a supervisor for parents who have been court ordered to have supervised visits with their children.

I knew by the time I was 8 years old that I wanted to be an attorney and practice family law. My parents divorced when I was very young and they were involved in the legal system regarding custody/visitation/child support for most of my childhood. My mother’s attorney was a big influence, as was the judge (Former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice, James Keller now deceased) who presided over my parents’ case, in my desire to become an attorney.

I have called Lexington home for over 25 years and Kentucky has been home for over 30 years. I have experienced many sides of family law:  as a child of divorced parents who were in and out of the court system which has complimented my family law practice; worked as a judicial law clerk; as a private family law attorney. With such unique experiences in my background, I can provide valuable insight and compassion when assisting clients through the legal process in family court.

I also teach taekwondo in Lexington three evenings a week and in my spare time, I like to travel, attend concerts, read, and visit with friends. I also foster for local pet rescue groups and have adopted several rescues.
