Excellent Results
I hired Attorney Rice to handle a case with a landlord who illegally kept my damage deposit. Mr. Rice was patient, explained things well, kept in contact and we ended with a very positive result without having to go to court. I would recommend Mr. Rice for any dispute with your landlord regarding damage deposits.

VETRAN APROVED!
I am a Marine Corps service-related disabled veteran who has a service dog. Upon moving into my new residence I was harassed constantly for over a year by my landlord regarding my service dog. Desperate to find a an end to this harassment I reached out to several lawyers with limited funds and rcontacts, I had no luck. I reached out to attorney Rice who I never spoke with before mentioned my problem related to my landlord and service dog and he instantly volunteered his services in assisting me with a letter to the man stopping of the harassment. Mr. Rice refused payment and patrioticly volunteered to help this veteran in need. Ed rice went above and beyond the Call of Duty writing a legal demand letter to stop the harassment from my landlord regarding my service dog. The letter was extremely effective and awesome ,exactly what I asked for and needed. The landlord emidiatly ceased all harassment and it has really improved the quality of my life. I can't thank attorney Rice enough and I can reassure anyone out there that I personally certifie attorney Rice "Marine Corps APPROVED!". Given that he was this helpful and effective right off the bat without knowing me , was truly amazing and just what I needed. If you're a veteran I give you my absolute confidence that you couldn't be in better hands then with attorney Rice representing you. I don't give this type of endorsement out easily, he truly went above and beyond the Call of Duty for me and any veteran or anyone for that matter can rest assured with mr. Rice you're in good hands. Lance corporal C. Rodrigues ,United States Marine Corps ,3/6 WEAPONS CO. ,2ND MARINE DIVISION, 81'S PLATOON ,FDC CHIEF.

Excellent Friendly and Knowledgeable Attorney!
Ed helped me and my colleagues against a greedy and dishonest landlord attempting to scam us out of more money than what we had initially paid as a security deposit. He was vigilant in dismantling the opposing side's claims which I was very impressed with.

BEST IN BOSTON
I found Chris Saccardi and Ed Rice's information online when I Googled best Tenant Attorney in Boston, and their information came up first. These guys truly are the best, so Google was extremely accurate! Chris and Ed worked extremely hard on a complex detailed case for me for 3 years that resulted with a positive resolution. The subject of the case was traumatic, and I knew I needed a good support system when I realized the situation I was in wasn't getting any better and was actually getting worse. They are extremely patient and professional and knew exactly how to handle dealing with me as a client when my emotions were running high. They both did an unbelievable job and worked extremely hard, I couldn't have asked for any better. Their dedication, determination, professionalism, knowledge and passion for law is top notch. They fight for what's right and won't back down from what they believe in. They fought and defended me until the end, and for that I will forever be grateful. If you are a tenant or a landlord, you definitely want Christopher Saccardi or Edward Rice on your team. They will give it their all and won't let you down. Thanks guys for everything, I'll never forget it.

Competent, Straight-forward, Accessible Housing Attorney
Ed Rice helped me when I had a complicated, unique housing situation that eventually required legal intervention. He successfully served a restraining order against my landlord, who was threatening to move my belongings, change the locks and tow my car which I rented from him in his driveway. Ed also went to court for me several times and successfully got the courts to give me as much time as I needed to move out of my apartment. Ed is the type of lawyer who truly cares about his clients. He was an incredible ally, always accessible and ready to answer any questions or concerns I had. With him as my attorney, I truly felt protected, which was invaluable. Ed was honest, straight-forward, competent and even funny at times during a very stressful situation. I highly recommend him! He is very experienced, kind, and-- most importantly-- gets results!

Great job on a difficult case
Mr. Rice did an excellent job with communication and follow up. His documents were well written. He is truly a gifted negotiator--anyone who can triple the offer from one of the most difficult people I have ever met deserves real congratulations. He is well respected in his field--I consulted another lawyer who was too busy to take my case and he recommended I consult Mr. Rice. Thank you!

Great outcome and excellent resource throughout
Ed helped me out on a very sensitive landlord-tenant issue in which I was the defendant. Though I cannot speak to the specifics of the case itself, I will say that Ed was paramount in ensuring that I did not get taken advantage of by the landlord. He explained every step of the process to me in layman's terms and advised me on recommendations, overall strategy, and best course of action throughout. I truly cannot thank you enough Ed for making this process as painless as possible and helping me reach the best possible outcome. Would recommend in a heartbeat!

We got three times our security deposit back!!
Our landlord refused to return our security deposit when we moved out, even though we left the place clean. Since we were students and moved out of Boston we thought we were out of luck, but we hired Attorney Rice and he knows the law for tenants and the court made the landlord return 3 times our security deposit. If you want your deposit back call this lawyer and stop getting robbed by your landlord just because you are students.

A truly excellent attorney in the area of Landlord-Tenant Law
My wife and I sought Ed's help while we were having issues with our landlord not making proper repairs for some fairly serious issues. When we first got in contact with Ed, we weren't sure what our options were, and were very anxious at the prospect of continuing to suffer through an uncomfortable and potentially unhealthy living situation while repairs dragged on. On our first phone consultation, Ed put our minds at ease by laying out our options and making a few suggestions about how we could proceed. His initial reaction was not to ask us to sign a retainer or file a lawsuit, but rather to help us hopefully resolve the issue on our own. Unfortunately, we were unable to make traction with our landlord on our own, and got back in touch with Ed. He set clear expectations of how things would likely progress, and started fighting on our behalf. Every step of the way, he was a staunch advocate, but direct with us when he thought we should compromise. In the end, we were able to reach a settlement without filing a lawsuit. I don't believe we would've been able to do it without Ed's help, and wholeheartedly would recommend him to anyone in need of a great attorney.

Reliable, concise, and generous
When you live in Boston one gets accustomed to mean spirited people. Ed Rice proved to be an exception as he is one of the most kind people I have come across yet. He offered to write a letter to my landlords who were withholding money from me. He set me at ease with this annoying issue, providing clear courses of action. Ed checked in with me frequently to see if there was any progress. Thanks to Ed writing a letter and contacting my previous landlords I have now received the majority of my money back. This preliminary process Ed provided was offered to me for free! I am still amazed I came across this man, his generosity continues to inspire me to do the same for others.

Incredibly helpful
Ed is to-the-point and incredibly helpful. He immediately identified the situation I was in with a landlord, and very clearly recommended what to do. He also was a deep relief as I was concerned about the situation, and offered to help immediately down the road if I ran into any other issues. An amazing attorney, call him if you ever need help.

Landlord conflict solved
When ownership of our apartment changed hands this summer, our new landlord gave us an ultimatum: allow work to be performed on our apartment that would make it smaller, or get out - even though we had already signed a lease renewal for the next year. Ed spent hours on the phone with us, giving us patient guidance, explanation of our rights, and advice on how to approach conversations with our landlord. Where other attorneys we spoke with wanted to take immediate legal action, Ed's instinct was that we could come to a resolution without actually taking legal action and spending lots of money. After a few weeks, the conflict now appears to be behind us, thanks to Ed's measured approach.

Fantastic advice on an Answer i have to file. EXTREMELY valuable advice because i was going to mic claims in a sense, possibly harming some of my future rights to pursue those (bigger) claims. Best $40 i've ever spent in my life. Thank you.

Ed provided the BEST advice i have ever received on Avvo. In my housing court case defending against a retaliatory eviction, Ed narrowed it to the core simple issues i need to focus on in my answer, as both legitimate legal points, but also that would help to buy me some time in hoping to settle.
