I am a native of Fairfax, Virginia and have lived in Maryland since January 2007. Having gone through a high-conflict divorce in 1998, I understands the pain of divorce, divorced parenting and the negative impacts of litigation. In 1994, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution, and then shortly after divorcing went to law school to become a family lawyer. I wanted other people struggling with family conflict to understand that litigation is not the only way to resolve the issues surrounding the break-up of a family. After years of practicing family law, I believe that non-adversarial approaches are always best in the family arena, but not always appropriate in every case. I enjoy helping people think through their situation and decide which approach is best for them in addressing their family matter.

Very pleased customer
Kimberly was very professional from beginning to end. Like most cases as they say there is no winner or looser because letting some else decide your life has pitfalls. She never took focus off the fact that it wasn't wining, it was about what was best for my son. Family law deals with the most import...

I couldn't have asked for better representation. From beginning to end, Kimberly and her team were extraordinary. Heather Shek, whom also worked on my case, is driven, personable, and sharp. Kimberly's legal expertise and professionalism went above and beyond my expectations throughout the duration o...

Respectful, Effective and Compassionate.
When you are not the major breadwinner, divorcing someone is scary, especially when you have kids. Fighting for custody is such an emotional, painful struggle--it’s easy to feel like the system is rigged for whomever has the biggest bank account (and as a teacher, that is never me). I am so glad I h...

Not What I Expected
Ms. Arn was the first attorney I spoke with about my situation. My husband filed for divorce and I needed someone to review the paperwork and provide me professional advice. She was punctual with the telephone consultation but she sounded annoyed by my story. I was trying to paint her a picture of my...
I reached out to Lisa directly as soon as she posted her review and apologized to her if I sounded short. However, I think she was probably right. I had a personal problem on my mind that morning and was not feeling myself. So, for that I am sorry. However, I do want to take this opportunity to let Lisa and others know, that unlike many attorneys I offer free telephone consultations. I do this for two reasons: One, because I believe that a client’s relationship with their family lawyer is highly personal and must be a good fit. I don’t believe that a client should have to pay me to find out if I am likely or not to be someone they would feel comfortable working with. Two, I want to give people some initial direction about their case. For example, whether a more comprehensive consultation is in order or whether other resources might be more suited to their situation. I probably give on average 8-10 free consultations each week and these can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the situation. New family law clients often do not always know what information is most important in order for me to assess their situation. It is not that I am not interested in their story, it is that in order to give them the most useful information within the confines of a free consultation, I may need to ask them to give me different information than what seems most important to them at that moment. I think Lisa took my re-direction for information as my not caring about her story rather than my attempting to get information from her that would allow me to give her some immediate substantive legal and process advice about her situation.
