Texas is not a very friendly place to a couple of confirmed bachelorettes that fall in love with each other; then accumulate property and investments together; and start a family together. While love is supposed to be beautiful if it is between two conscious and consenting adults, our families did no...t think so. We had a long road to hoe (imagine that, two lesbians wearing flannel shirts and using gardening tools outside) in life. So when our relationship fell apart it was incredibly insulting to be treated with a total lack of respect by many local family law lawyers. Conservative Republicans burning a hole through me with their piercing stares of hate did not make me feel welcome sitting in their offices. With quite a bit of money tangled up between us over the years (she is a physician, I work in finance) I had no idea where to turn. That's when something nice happens when you least expect it. I was at a wine tasting with some of my lesbian biker friends (was that redundant?) complaining about not knowing what to do next regarding my failed relationship. One of my friends, who is a friend of a friend of Daniel, gave me his contact information and told me just to meet with him for a few minutes. While friends are the one thing you have left when you have split from your lover and your family left you behind years ago, I still didn't have much faith considering how the other lawyers had treated me. Daniel (Danny, but he would not be happy if I told you that he let me call him that) was everything they said he would be. When the other lawyers sat there judging me, putting me on the brink of tears right there in their office, he was compassionate and listened to my story. He asked me a lot of questions and made me feel like a human for the first time in a long time that he was there for me. I am not totally helpless, I earned an MBA, but still the job of a lawyer is to get you comfortable with what is going on, what comes next, and to know someone is guarding you, protecting you. He was a centurion keeping me informed about everything that was happening and everything we were still waiting on. If you need a lawyer that is an adult, like he can instantly look past the mistakes you made, and just start helping you out - then you can not do better than Danny. I think he is a perfect person, I would not be the same person today had he not represented me, I would probably still be going lawyer to lawyer crying in their office.
