Beware!

I hired Ms. Olson to represent me in an eviction with a family member, which should have been a fairly straightforward and expeditious matter. However it was far from either. There are many things I could share about Ms. Olson's representation. However to place perspective, I am sharing the following... example that occurred early on in my case. After the 2nd continuance opposing counsel failed to appear at the scheduled hearing. As a result, the Judge granted the Order for eviction, which was the outcome I was seeking. About (45) minutes later opposing counsel arrived and her and Ms. Olson went in front of the Judge. Ms. Olson asked the Judge to tear up the Order he had just granted and he did. Opposing counsel had not entered her appearance and was allowed to represent her client previously and again on this very day Ms. Olson asked the Order to be torn up. Ms. Olson never shared any of this with me. I only learned of this when I ordered the transcripts because of mounting concerns. Ms. Olson was charging me a flat fee and her hourly rate would kick in if there was going to be a bench trial for the eviction. By her asking the Judge to tear up the Order, she ensured there would be a bench trial. After what was supposed to be the bench trial things became markedly worse as a result of her representation. The eviction was finally granted after (7) months. Ms. Olson not only exploited the fact I was out of town but displayed no empathy or urgency in an already difficult real estate family matter.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"I endorse Amy Olson as one of the best landlord-tenant attorneys in the State of Illinois. I first encountered Amy as opposing counsel on a pro bono case where I represented the tenant. She was extremely fair and clearly knew the law (both procedure and substance) more than almost anyone in the courtroom. But what impressed me more than her knowledge, thoroughness, and attention to detail was her humility and genuine kindness. As I continued my own practice on the landlord side, I was able to observe her every week and she never succumbed to the arrogance and swagger that often accompanies victory after victory in court. For these reasons, I referred ALL my landord-tenant clients to her when I bought another law firm and focused my area of practice solely upon injury law. As an attorney, there is no other lawyer that I would trust with the legal work for landlords. Incidentally, I never asked for or received any referral fees for sending clients to Amy. I do it because she is the best!"
