Abigail Rivamonte Mesa is a Deputy Public Defender in San Francisco. She has served as lead attorney in over 50 trials since she was first admitted to the California State Bar in 2009. Her not guilty verdicts have garnered buzz by several media outlets. She attributes much of her success to her team of hard working interns and supportive colleagues at the Public Defender's Office.
She graduated cum laude from the University of California, San Diego and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she was the president of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and a founding board member of the Pilipino American Law Society.
Abigail was the founding President of the Asian American Criminal Trial Lawyers Association and currently serves on their Board. She is also the former President and current Advisory Board Member of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California.
As a Deputy Public Defender she serves low-income and predominantly minority clients who are struggling in the criminal justice system. As their advocate she strives to give them the power and voice that they deserve in the courtroom. Her daily inspiration comes from her colleagues at the Public Defender's Office who fight the good fight for the innocent and the underserved.
