Nearly $2,300 Billed to Confirm Missed Deadline, No Follow-Up

I hired BFQ to help me draft a motion for reconsideration after my motion for revision was denied. During the initial discussion, they advised that the chances of success were slim but said they would conduct research to confirm. That research ended up being billed for nearly five hours, costing arou...nd $2,300, even though determining whether the filing deadline had already passed should have taken less than a minute. When I requested clarification about how that time was spent and asked for a detailed description of the work performed, my inquiries were completely ignored. I never received any explanation or my client file. My experience with BFQ was disappointing due to the lack of transparency, accountability, and responsiveness. Anyone considering their services should insist on clear time estimates, written breakdowns, and regular communication regarding billing and progress.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE!!!!!

This law firm is an utter joke! Look at the reviews on Yelp, those are more accurate to what these Quacks do in my opinion. My husband retained Jason Owens with this law firm. After almost a year of fighting bullhonkey from the opposing side it was time to fire this attorney as we ran out of money. W...ell! Let ME tell you the utterly ridiculousness shenanigans that ensued. FIRST, Jason Owens withdrew. Nothing wrong there 1 case he was off good. Then on the second case he didnt withdraw according to court records. SECONDLY, HE EMAILED MY HUSBAND AND TOLD HIM HE COULD FILE WHILE AN ATTORNEY IS ON RECORD. This is incorrect information. Truefiling said you can not file because the attorney is on record. So after this of course my husband was understanding but he had a timeline to follow with a opposing motion. When finally getting irritated that he was told hopefully theyll get it fixed (the court) my husband told him this was his fault and he needed to fix the issue to either file what my husband wrote or to get off the case. My husband was blown off and told "were done" "good luck" after Jason was the cause of this unnecessary storm. They have no accountability, ethic, or professionalism. It is appalling and attorney and law firm can act like this not to mention this grown adult was up the nose of billing department. While other lawyers ive had personally didnt care until funds were low and needed to be refilled but even then it wasn't the attorney reaching out it was billing department. This firm is a complete joke and down right disgrace to the legal system. Its also just utterly horrible that a 22 year old mechanic can pick apart and destroy their arguments. DO NOT HIRE THEM. THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN YOUR AVERAGE THEIF!!!!!!

Did my Family wrong

After a year taking my case , 4 attorneys from the firm, And 2 months before the statue of limitations is up. And in the beginning they gave me hope on who was responsible for the death of my son. I did not here anything ,except that another lawyer was handing my case. And nothing was ever filed with... the courts. And the last conversation was with Trent and he said it would cost too much money to go any further, and said don't give up hope that try to find some other firm. Well I tried and no one would take it because of limitations. Blake in the beginning said he would be there always. This was in Texas. So I called him in Alaska and he was very nasty. Saying what ever Texas said goes, even tho he is the CEO. Just did my Family wrong and the very important matter is my dead sons daughter who is 4 will never get any answers or closure.

Divorce took 20 months, 3 lawyers, <$40K, and it's still an open case...

I retained Blake Fulton Quackenbush (BFQ) Anchorage office in August 2021, based mostly on their rating and the reviews on this site. Unlike most of these reviews, I had a very different experience. My case should have been easy, it was a division of assets with no children (the estate was small). Ho...wever, during my time with BFQ, my case was extended multiple times, I consistently had to correct over billing errors, I was given bad advice and misrepresented. Overall, the service from BFQ has been borderline negligent. My first lawyer with BFQ, Mark Tyler, quit the firm within a month of taking my case. Two other of my lawyers quit the firm during my case also. Each one caused huge gaps in communication and documentation, and ultimately cost me more money. I routinely had to resend information/forms/documentation. Additionally, by the time Mark quit BFQ, my initial $6,000 retainer was depleted with no movement in my case. By April 2022 I had been charged $13,855.88. When I reviewed the 8 months of invoices and found multiple billing errors (after I brought it to their attention they credited me $2k). I have had to review every invoice during my tenure at BFQ, finding errors on almost every one (most of which are small 0.1 hr over, which feels like death by 1000 cuts). I spoke to Trent Quackenbush about my concern over firm practices and movement in my case. Trent was disrespectful and curt with me about my issues. He dismissed my concerns and informed me that I needed to be patient. My second lawyer with BFQ, Carmen Johnson, in July 2022 (before she quit and just before my trial) opposing counsel sent her a message that we could vacate the trial because they were ready to settle. Without consulting me, and without a settlement in hand, she vacated the trial. When opposing counsel (surprise) were not ready to settle, we had to get another trial date. The new trial was set for 6 months later. During those 6 months of waiting, I paid BFQ another $11,602.13. I spoke to Blake and Trent Quackenbush in January 2023, after my 4 days allotted for trial (costing $9,000) ended with yet another extension. Blake (the firm's owner who lives in Texas) was verbally aggressive and unprofessional when I questioned him on the firm's billing practices, terrible communication and lack of due diligence in my case. After 18 months and $36,111.01 (I still owe them ~$5k), my trial ended. However, my case is still open awaiting judgment. My final lawyer at BFQ, Kris Jensen (who got me through trial and was the only lawyer from BFQ that was looking out for my best interests), also quit the firm. Two months after my trial ended I received this email from Blake: "I just wanted to reach out to you and let you know that I received notice within about the last 48 hours from Kris Jensen that Kris will be quitting our office effectively on April 14, 2023 to go work for another firm. The firm that he's going to be working for starting April 17, 2023 is a firm that has its principal place of business in Denver, Colorado (Leventhal Lewis Kuhn Taylor Swan PC) and it is my understanding that they will be putting a satellite office in Anchorage around the 17th where Kris and 3 other attorneys will work." I will be following my lawyer to his new firm. I would suggest all of the clients of the other 3 attorneys also follow their lawyers to this new firm. I would not recommend anyone to Blake Fulton Quakenbush law firm.

Questionable practice from my initial consultation.

The majority of this review is about the Law Offices of Blake Fulton Quackenbush and Trent Quackenbush who was the legal assistant who consulted me. I was charged $250 for a one hour consultation, which would have been fine if it was with a lawyer, not a legal assistant. I was informed during this... meeting that if I did not immediately start taking my kids 50% of the time, even if it meant creating some traumatic drama, I would lose custody of my kids. I was told that was the choice I had to make. After talking to and retaining an actual lawyer, I was informed that that was a terrible decision. If you are looking for a large firm which spends your money to make their office look like a kitschy day spa, then this might be the firm for you. Maybe I'm just too old fashion, but I don't need my legal representation dressed like they are going to an evening fashion show. UPDATE: I was contacted by the owner/attorney a week after posting this and instead of an apology or offer of a refund, he decided to start giving me a bunch of legal advice I did not ask for and finally, after I said "I didn't call you, you called me, I'm not looking for legal advice, what do you want", he asked if I would take down the review for a refund. It wasn't until after I contacted him again, did he say that they decided to change their policy and only have attorneys do consultations. I still have never received a refund and at this point it's not about the money. Be cautious dealing with this company. UPDATE 7/10/19: They have changed their response to my review, so I thought I should update to reflect that. I did file a motion asking for 50% custody, but I did not take the kids from my wife during this time against her wishes, as I was consulted to do by their Legal Aide. If I had traumatized my wife and kids by forcing them away from my wife, my currently amicable divorce would have definitely gone a different direction. The information they are trying to put in their response is correct, but has nothing to do with the actual issue they created. Also, they did finally refund my money after many weeks and after contacting me multiple times to take down this review. I hadn't asked for my money back, all I had asked for was an apology and for them to admit that they had messed up; they wouldn't do that. At that point, I told them to keep their money because I thought it was more important that people knew the truth about their firm and it's practices.

We are very sorry to hear about your experience. Customer and client satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us, and your thoughts are important to us. We strive to be the best at what we do. Our firm is modern and innovative because we believe it mirrors the quickly changing modern world we live in. Potential clients will have consultations with attorneys. I should point out that we did in fact refund you the full amount of your consultation fee. It also appears from the documents that you filed in your court case immediately after your consultation that you did in fact submit a motion asking to take the children 50% of the time, which is strange considering your review. An attorney has attempted to clarify and resolve your concerns, but feel free to contact us if there is anything else we can do for you.
