I came to Ashby law on the recommendation of another lawyer from the Seattle area as i was in a bit of a situation where the biological parent of my daughter kidnapped her and then filed custody papers in Franklin county even though we had lived in pierce and Thurston her entire life. My life complet...ely flipped when i let my daughters bio dad take her for a weekend visit to help build a relationship as he had been mostly absent her entire life, and hadn't spoken to her since 2017, but he had been making a sincere effort this time and had been constant for a little over month. When it came time to pick my daughter up he said he was not going to let her come home and his lawyer said he could keep her. When i say my situation is complicated its because it is, my daughter is not biologically mine either, she was in my care through her mother and step father. She is 12 and she has been my child since she was 5. The mistake her mother and I made was we never had any official parenting plan in place because well her bio dad was largely absent so we didnt think it was needed he would call a few times a year and maybe visit for a couple hours. Her step father has been there since the day she was born and she thinks of him as her dad. Anyway after the bio dad did all this i called so many attorneys most of which told me tuff luck nothing i can do for you. But when i spoke to a local attorney he enthusiastically recommended Mr.Ashby. After contacting them and having our strategy meeting Zach made me feel hopeful. Him and his paralegal Sandra M (bless this women) worked quickly and efficiently to get all the paperwork filed as we were on a time crunch because i had been blind sided and bio dad had a jump start. They helped me file de facto parentage, and motions to intervene etc. Lots to pause what the other party was doing and give me a shot at not having my daughter completely up rooted from her home and life to be with strangers. Although the other party did some slimy, not great things and straight up lied more then once (all of which i could prove with various communications) Mr. Ashby was very professional and didnt even try to stoop to their level by just laying out all the lies;instead he used his extensive knowledge of law and specifically family law to lay out my case in most logical and straight forward way as possible. Their presentation of our facts paired with his understanding of the law related to de facto parentage when we went to our first hearing it was a success the judge ruled in favor of our temporary parenting plan and allowed us to move forward with de facto parentage (as the opposing party was desperately trying to stop so we could not have a say on his custody case where he was trying to get full custody and up root my daughter) she ordered my daughter be returned with in 24hrs. After a month of tears and being shut down we were able to get my baby home and that is thanks to Mr.Ashby. Our journey is not over but i am so grateful to be able to have Zach on my team through this complicated custody situation and am so grateful he was able to get my daughter home with her family while we navigate the situation instead of inna strangers house who wouldnt let her contact us. Sandra and Zach told me what i needed to gather from our community and were always available for questions. Anytime i called Sandra if she didnt pick up she would call me back very quickly (even if i didnt leave a message) they both responded to my emails in timely matter. There wasnt a point i felt out of the loop. Again i am so grateful this is my team for this complicated matter. I would 100% recommend them.
