Replied last April 12, 2016Steve - thank you to you and Sue for your kind review. When you called me in the middle of the night that July about the tragic loss of your young son, I was struck by the awesome weight of the responsibility and honor of being called at a time like that. While I appreciate you saying here in this forum that we "won" that case against the United States, I know that we did not and for that I am very sorry. As a result of his death, yes, we did file a lawsuit against the United States and yes, we did receive money following a long litigation. Yet, it never felt like a win. Your son has not been returned to you; his remains still sit in an urn. I know from the look in your eyes that you are still in pain every day, and as a father myself, I know there was not and never could have been justice for what happened to your son. And, people who read this should also know the rest of the story too, Steve. When our first expert came back saying we didn't have much of a case and when there were other road blocks, there were times when I felt like I couldn't carry on. It was too risky, too expensive. too much work, too hard. You heard me say all that and yet you kept fighting. It was your tenacity and will that drove the case - without your fight there would have been no recovery. I appreciate you and all your friendship. Thank you Steve. Thank you also for referring me to another family who also lost a child, their beautiful young daughter, just as her life as a young lady was starting. I am really proud of the work I did for her family and, like you and your family, also consider them friends.
