Ryan Mattson grew up in suburban Philadelphia as the youngest of five children in an energetic, Irish American family. Realizing if he wanted to be heard among the routine familial cacophony, Ryan learned to choose his words carefully and develop a sense of humor.

After graduating from Penn State University, Ryan earned his Juris Doctor from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2017. While in law school and upon graduating, Ryan clerked for The Law Offices of Craig Altman, a small but mighty personal injury firm located in Center City, Philadelphia. It was here Ryan honed his craft and learned how to interact with clients, draft legal documents, and observe what it truly means to be a team player in a law office, as well as an advocate for the unfairly injured.

Yearning for change and adventure, Ryan, his wife Mary, and their dog Rocco moved to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2019 following a four-week road trip across the United States. Upon arrival, he began work as a family law attorney at Heritage Family Law in Vancouver, WA, specializing in divorce, custody, parenting plans, child support, spousal support, paternity, modifications, protective orders, and relocation. Understanding his clients’ need for both strong advocacy and emotional support during an unsettling time in their lives, Ryan routinely sought out and protected each client’s best interest through the initial phases of the case, during settlement negotiations with opposing counsel, and if necessary, at trial.

Wanting to branch out his practice, Ryan joined the Vern McCray Law Firm in the summer of 2021 to specialize in estate matters, criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law.

Outside of work, Ryan is a massive Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, Phillies, and Penn State Nittany Lions fan. He can often be found playing guitar, skiing, running, hiking, traveling with Mary, and laughing with family and friends (usually at his own jokes).

Excellent Attorney
I used Ryan Mattson to get a legal separation from my husband. He was professional and very attentive. He was very responsive to my emails and phone calls. And best of all, his fees were very, very reasonable. I will definitely use him again if the need arises.

Love Ryan!
Personally, I am one who tries to resolve matters without getting lawyers involved. However, in some cases like mine, you have to call for someone that know what they are doing. Ryan came highly recommended by a friend of mine. He turned out to be not only reliable and extremely knowledgeable but also such a personable and caring lawyer. . He knew when I needed to push a bit harder, and when I needed to chill the F#@k out, and he had no problem telling me too. . . I will continue to recommend Ryan to anyone looking for a lawyer. He resolved my issue very quickly, and advocated for me during court Ryan is a freaking rickstartm!

Highly recommend!
Ryan is very professional and knowledgable Attorney. I appreciate his attentiveness and dedication. He communicated well and always in a timely manner. He was very patient when I needed further explanation (often). He was straight forward with me and always realistic. I completely respected that he never fed me "false promises/hope." Legal proceedings are not always fair, things will not always go in our favor and he prepared me well for every possible outcome so there were never any surprises. He fought extremely hard for what was fair and right and in the end, I felt that I could not have hired a better Attorney. Thank you Ryan for supporting me through a very frustrating case!

Helpful, knowledgeable, and straight forward
Ryan helped me with a difficult divorce case that lasted through the pandemic. Even though we did not get exactly what we wanted, Ryan has always approached the case with care and clarity. He provided a good representation for me, and I am happy about his help with voicing my concerns in court. I would recommend Ryan as a great attorney to fight for your cause.

Immensely Helpful
Ryan is skilled, compassionate and intelligent. I have experienced those who don't care & don't do their best. Ryan does both. Especially important he will speak up and advocate when needed. Anyone who has experienced family issues requiring support from family law know it is heart wrenching & stressful. Ryan does his job well and understands and cares about what your going through. He is also conscientious about your finances. He doesn't over charge or waste time not needed in order to charge more. He is truly there for your need of his skill and talent. My family and I highly recommend him.

Excellent & straight forward!
I transferred my case to Ryan from a previous attorney regarding divorce/custody . The initial attorney I had was a nightmare, and I quickly learned that some don't exactly have your best interest in mind. I could see that I was on the verge of losing everything, including my son if I stuck with the Attorney I was with. So I made the decision to switch to another firm which Ryan is a part of. He was very well informed on Family Law, was quick to respond and research anything I had questions on, even with the added stress of the Pandemic. Most of all, he didn't try to exploit my situation and exacerbate things to make extra drama for more money. (like my previous one) Long story short, Our divorce/custody was finalized just last week. The end result was much better than I could have hoped for! I would highly recommend Ryan to anyone needing a family law attorney.
