Wouldn't let me speak.

As I was explaining the situation to this guy he spoke over me cut me off and proceeded to tell me what he doesn't does not cover which he could have led off with that instead of asking me to explain what was going on at the end of his rant he said best of luck have a good day and hung up. Extrem...ely unprofessional I couldn't even get a consult or get a question answered or anything from this guy. I would not recommend his services to anybody!!

Great guy and a great attorney

I had a landlord who was trying to evict us illegally. Barnett not only made us fell comfortable throughout the process, he also got us the outcome we had hoped for. Even when we were wavering and worried, his confidence and legal expertise were a guiding light for us and they were the reason we... got the outcome we got. If your looking for an attorney that has the expertise, but acts in a moral and ethical manner, Barnett is your man.

Just what we needed. Expert legal advice and a compassionate listening ear.

I was very impressed with Barnett Kalikow's knowledge and assistance when needing to consult an attorney on a pressing legal situation. His wisdom and compassion for our situation was exactly what we needed, and his expertise to understand how to get us to the expert support we needed was outstandin...g. After the consultation I felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and I now have the clarity with which to face our legal challenges. His professional and expert counsel was invaluable. I can easily recommend his services to anyone seeking legal advice in times of need.

Nice guy but comes up short as a lawyer

After almost 2 years and about $1800, all I got was a 3 page letter to my HOA. Supposedly he sent it and had dealings with them and their attorney. However, when I left him (since he never had time to get back and follow up with me), I requested all info that he had in his file so I could pass alo...ng that info to my new lawyer. I got absolutely nothing from him. I never even got a detailed billing for hours spent on what dates, start and end times, where time was spent, etc. And a retired Law Enforcement Officer, I've had dealing with attorneys for many many years. Mr Kalikow is a nice person but I was very disappointed in his ability (or inability) as a lawyer. Perhaps my case wasn't big enough for him to require a lot of his attention but I was expecting a lot more than I ever got. For all I know, he wrote a 3 page letter and never mailed it to HOA nor had any dealing with them as he has ever given me any info to prove they got a letter. I wish him good luck but as far as a recommendation, sorry but I'd suggest perhaps you look elsewhere. And if he responds to this review, I'd bet he will try and explain away everything as being a mistake or my fault (somehow) but I doubt he will take responsibility for his poor performance on my case.

I am of course never happy when a client is dissatisfied, but I appreciate hearing complaints for two reasons: 1) It gives me the opportunity to address issues going forward that, at times, I did not know were problems, and 2) It gives me the opportunity to explain details of the practice of law, at least my practice, that lawyers sometime believe their clients know, but sometimes don’t. First, however, I must address significant inaccuracies in your account. - You were a client of this office for 9 months, ending at the end of July, 2017 – not 2 years; You explicitly informed me, in July of 2017, in writing, that you were not going to pursue the matter any further, with new counsel or otherwise; The amount you paid was significantly less than indicated. I refunded several hundred dollars at the conclusion of our agreement (8/2017). You cashed the refund check; My billing does and did include the date, the task billed for, and amount of time for the task. I have used the same form for about 25 years, without complaint. I must surmise that you never actually saw the multiple statements we sent because you were having difficulty getting regular mail (or phone) at the time; Initial letter: I emailed you several times (3/21 and 3/31) explaining who responded to the our initial letter and how, and you acknowledged receipt of these emails, so you were aware that it was sent; Lessons: This was mostly a communication problem, not a question of laws or remedies or even legal skill: We may well have achieved a satisfactory outcome in this matter; in fact I think it likely. Although communication must at some level be the responsibility of both parties, lawyers must take the primary initiative in ensuring the client is regularly informed of the matters, especially when as here, the matter is not in litigation and is otherwise not immediately urgent. I have now instituted a system of calendared reminders (tickles) specifically in non-urgent matters. Conversely, Clients of any professionals should contact the professional if you have not heard from them in a reasonable amount of time. You have a right to be informed of what is happening in your matter, even if it is nothing. I fully understand the complainant’s frustration, even if his memory of the details has waned in the 18 months since these matters transpired, and I certainly do not blame him for that frustration.

Couldn’t Be Better: Ethical, Energetic, Knowledgeable

I have consulted with Barnett on several legal matters. He is the best listener I know, and is able to analyze and sum up very complicated situations very quickly. He is everything one would want in a lawyer: reasonable, thorough, and persuasive. He knows the law and is able to present the specifics ...of a matter very convincingly. I read the anonymous reviewer (below) who called him "dismissive" and it made me mad. I am NOT anonymous- I am Lyn, and I would be happy to recommend Barnett. He has helped me navigate the complexities of the legal system and has never failed to come through for me
