Shouldn't lawyers be able to afford manners?

Barnett Kalikow was dismissive before even seeking to *understand* my situation. Despite his profile reading that he works and represents "civil rights" he seems to do so for only a certain class of the population (white cis men?). Not sure how a lawyer seeking clients can afford such a disrespectf...ul dismissive attitude but I would not recommend this to anyone seeking actual care and defense. I think Mr. Kalikow needs to remember there are others out there who also work doing what he does and maybe he will remember to be respectful!!

Because the reviewer is anonymous, it is hard for me to respond meaningfully. Nonetheless, I appreciate the opportunity they have given me to clarify the work I do in the broad arena called civil rights. Although the bulk of my practice is involved in real property, land use and environment, I also represent persons who are the subject of discrimination on any basis. This includes LGBTQ persons, and in fact I have represented both gay and transgendered persons who were the subject of significant discrimination on the basis of their identity. I especially seek to and have worked with persons with disabilities seeking justice in the workplace and in housing. I generally do NOT represent persons who allege violation of civil rights during arrest or incarceration, unless there is a significant issue of discrimination involved. I believe that such matters are best handled by criminal defense attorneys. I also do not respond favorably to written inquiries that do not actually describe a problem, at least in some outline form. I will be happy to consult with anyone who believes they have been the subject of discrimination, including the reviewer if they would like to contact my office directly and describe any issue which confronts them. I do not this think has happened.
