Ryan English has focused his law career on criminal defense since the time he began law school. As an intern at the King County Department of Public Defense, he regularly appeared in court on behalf of his clients, which was when he began delivering favorable results. He continued working as a public defender until he began his career in the private practice.
Ryan took his first case to trial in his third year of law school (as a licensed Rule 9 intern), which was resolved at the end of all proceedings with no convictions for his client. One year later as a newly licensed attorney, his first jury trial resolved with a 30-minute not guilty verdict. He has continued to aggressively and effectively fight for his clients’ rights, ranging from the trial to appellate level. He has overturned convictions on appeal, won many jury trials and criminal motions at the trial level, and helped individuals in administrative proceedings regarding a variety of issues.
Ryan's career really began to take off once he began his own practice. His philosophy is take a relatively small and manageable caseload, and give every single client the individualized attention they deserve and pay for. Currently, Ryan focuses his practice areas in criminal appeals, criminal defense, and personal injury.

Ryan saved the day
I had two aspects of my case with the court and DOL both being involved. Ryan worked to get me a positive outcome in both instances.

Very knowledgeable of the law.
I will start off with I met Mr. English in municipal court. He is not a joke. He asked me to do a lot of things to make a stronger argument in my favor. It was laborious yet Mr. English and the firm's staff were constantly supporting me with outside business. They were clear in what they could assist...

Great guy
Ryan was awesome, he was able to get a desired out cone from my DUI case. I would refer Ryan to anyone going through such case. It was a stressful time but I was able to sleep at night and go about my life knowing Ryan was working for me to get the best outcome possible.

Non responsive, forgetful and unprofessional
Used him for a simple case that didn’t require a paid lawyer. He still to this day hasn’t replied to numerous emails I sent (he was responding, then just stopped). Had to remind him what my case was about every time we would have a scheduled meeting at his office! Remind him what our strategy ...
I'm sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction, but this sounds highly unusual to me. Was this while I was working at the public defender's office in Longview, or in private practice in Olympia? Perhaps you're mistaken as to who your attorney was, as there are 5 other attorneys named Ryan English on Avvo.com. Additionally, my picture was not uploaded to Avvo when you posted this review, so you very well could have the wrong person. While working at the public defender's office, we were able to take on a small number of retained cases, per our contract with the city. You indicated that you paid for my services. But, before I left my position in Longview, all of my privately retained cases were concluded, with very happy clients. All of my public defense cases were transferred to another associate, and our legal assistants sent out letters to all of my clients informing them that they would be represented by a different attorney. All of the cases I resolved lately in private practice have also resulted with very satisfied clients. I always respond to my clients promptly and remember the details of their cases. So, your complaints frankly do not ring a bell with me. I'm stumped as to who you are. Again, I am sorry to hear about your bad experience, but I'm afraid you're mistaken as to who your lawyer was.

I've had the distinct pleasure of knowing Ryan for about 5 years now, and I can say with the utmost confidence that Ryan is an incredible attorney with amazing skills that are matched by the level of care and attention that he gives every client, in every case. I wholeheartedly endorse Ryan English as an incredible attorney."
