In 2006, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Western Washington University. Before graduate school he spent time commercial fishing in Alaska and working for a local construction company. Later, Mr. Thompson accepted a scholarship from a small Christian law school, and was granted a limited license to practice law as an intern at Platt & Buescher.
Mr. Thompson graduated cum laude from Liberty University School of Law in 2011, admitted to practice law in the state of Washington and United States District Court of the Western District of Washington, and became a member of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

A skilled and passionate legal writer and researcher, Brent Thompson possesses great knowledge concerning search and seizure law, evidence, and criminal procedure. He has done significant and meaningful work on serious felony cases including a high profile first degree murder case receiving national media attention, a complex conspiracy charged in federal court involving an international drug smuggling operation, and other major felonies while working with Craig Platt.
Brent's skills have presented strong challenges for state and federal prosecutors. Mr. Thompson's practice also emphasizes post-conviction relief, including firearm rights restoration, vacation of prior adult felonies and misdemeanors, and sealing juvenile criminal records. He finds post-conviction motions practice rewarding because it provides those who have changed with relief from past mistakes. He is also passionate about the individual right of responsible, law abiding citizens to keep and possess firearms in a safe manner and holds vast knowledge concerning Second Amendment jurisprudence and firearm laws.
Beyond criminal matters, Brent also provides passionate representation to family law clients. He recognizes that dissolutions and child custody matters are very difficult emotionally and financially and strives to provide zealous representation and honest advice. Mr. Thompson also accepts some tort claims and car accident cases, but is selective.
Mr. Thompson has served hundreds of clients since joining Platt & Buescher, and has also done volunteer work for the Island County Volunteer Lawyer Program. Mr. Thompson is dedicated to providing zealous advocacy and exercising due diligence in all of his cases.

Relationship: Other
I've known Mr. Thompson for many years. Few attorneys approach each case with his dedication and care. He is very knowledgeable and is great in the courtroom. If you are in trouble, give Brent a call!
Craig Platt, General practice Attorney on Sep 19, 2017
Relationship: Supervised lawyer
Brent is the most competent, hard working, creative, and diligent lawyer I have ever met. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. He obsesses over every detail of every case, constantly trying to get the best possible result for every client. Funny thing is that, after all that commitment to his work, he does get the best results possible. Recently he sued the Federal Government on a gun rights case. I had my doubts that it was a good idea. The Feds can be, shall we say, difficult?. He not only devoted himself to the work, but he won what many would consider to be a virtually impossible case. And he got the judge to order the US Attorney's Office to pay for our client's legal fees in the process. Need I say more? Brent is a phenomenal lawyer and every one of his clients is in great hands.

Brent has the guts and expertise to take on the federal government over the denial of firearm rights. Lots of people talk about it but he has done it.
