Practice Area: Criminal defense
Description: Client was charged with Assault Fourth Degree under RCW 9A.36.041 for allegedly striking another male in the face who flirted with his wife. This crime is a gross misdemeanor punishable up to a year in jail, a $5,000.00 fine and 2-5 years of active probation. Convictions can lead to loss of employment opportunities, travel restrictions and loss of firearm rights. Client was laid off from his employment over this charge. Even worse, the Prosecutor wanted Client to plead guilty as charged, serve 10 days of jail, pay a $400 fine, obtain an anger management evaluation, undergo treatment and serve two years of active probation at $100 per month. The Prosecutor also wanted Client to enter a No-Contact Order with the victim and pay restitution for the victim’s injuries. Despite the challenges, Mr. Ransom thoroughly investigated the case and discovered the victim did not want to press charges and/or testify on behalf of the Prosecution. The case was dismissed. Afterward, Client re-obtained his employment.
