The Very Best Lawyer for the Worst Situation

An assistant at the Pet Emergency Clinic made the most horrible mistake a pet owner could imagine, and mistakenly euthanized our sedated, but healthy, 10 year-old golden retriever, Baxter. Our family was devastated. After dealing with the initial shock and disbelief, we had to decide how to deal with... the clinic. My husband, who happens to be an attorney, suggested we try and settle directly with the veteranarians that owned the clinic. They decided they would rather let their insurance company handle the matter. After a couple of conversations with the insurance adjuster, my husband was convinced we needed to hire an attorney that specialized in animal law. Every avenue, including research of Washington cases, the internet, and referrals from others in the legal profession, lead us to Adam Karp. We are very thankful we found him. We could not have had better representation. Adam jump right in immediately. He obtained all of the records from the clinic, had us provide him with Baxter's life story, and had us let him know just how much Baxter meant to all of us as a member of our family since the day we brought him home as a puppy. Adam put together an incredible letter to the insurance company, including family pictures with Baxter, and copies of other animal death or injury cases he had settled or won. Adam dealt aggressively and professionally with the insurance company, which is more than I can say for their adjustor, and kept us informed by email and telephone calls every step of the way. When the adjustor resorted to unprofessional and inappropriate tactics, Adam went directly to her supervisor. Before we knew it, the insurance company agreed to pay the full amount we requested. We are still heartbroken over the loss of Baxter, and still have trouble processing how this could have happened. And while no amount of money can replace a precious member of our family, having the case settled (and dealing with a new puppy) is helping us move forward. Adam was compassionate, diligent, knowledgable and always accessible throughtout the process. He was also very fair and reasonable in his fee structure and billing. We could not have had a better person in our corner to help us through this tragedy. I would recommend Adam to anyone dealing with an animal law case, without question.

"Saving Kane"

We were served a" potentially dangerous dog" notice, which was quickly updated to a "declared dangerous dog" because he bite a federal government employee, two and a half months ago. We decided to appeal the "Declared Dangerous Dog Notice. We were denied assistance from everyone we called, they ...always replied, "no we are for the other guy, the victim". We had one attorney who was recommended by the bar association, and he flat out told us "animals had no rights". I continued my search and finally one receptionist listened to my story, began asking more questions, and informed me she would return my call after discussions with the firm. She returned my call within the hour and informed me that the best person for our situation, would be Mr. Adam Karp, who deals exclusively with animal law issues. I was given hope, and I stood by that, because altho our canine did an awful, awful, thing, I did not believe he deserved to be euthanized, I believed animals had rights too. Our canine bite this person on September 4th 2012, and Mr Karp finally returned our call on the 13th of September. Mr Karp requested a few documents we were served and said he would contact me soon. Communication was done by e-mails and I was upfront and honest with all the questions he asked of me. In the meantime, we continued our state wide search for an attorney who would take our case, and all the while we were repeatedly being denied by other firms, denied visitations to our canine while he was being quarantined, it seemed to be a hopeless, impossible situation. While we remained to wait for Mr. Karp's reply, we had another appointment with another attorney in Fife. While waiting in their office,Mr. Adam Karp called and decided to represent our dog, Kane. Boy were we ever ecstatic...I hung up the phone and informed the paralegal and attorney that I just hired someone else. They asked if we did not mind, who took our case? I informed them who it was, and they could not stop" raving" about him, especially the attorney. She said she had worked with him a while ago, but that he may not remember her, because it was so long ago. She said that Adam is totally serious and professional in his chosen profession and that we would be pleased and happy with his work. And boy, were we ever. He was extremely aggressive the very next day, started just "bulldozing" all the walls built before us, and there were many of them. Kept us informed every step of the way, he was forceful in his choice of words, "the attorney lingo", I found it to be delightfully amicable. He was truly, on our side. Mr. Karp's expertise was truly amazing. He made the impossible, possible, and trust me, our dog would have been euthanized if it was not for him. My partner of 18 years almost gave up, twice. I just refused to give in. And he is the registered owner!! I told my partner, listen to me, Kane may never be welcome back in our home again, but at least Adam may be able to keep him alive, and right now that's all that matters, don't you think?? And he came to his senses, and agreed... Step by step, inch by inch, Adam opened locked doors, he mellowed out harsh, sometimes hostile communications, delicately peaceful. You could just envision the sighs amongst all that were involved. It was unbelievable. We did not care, what it took to save Kane, we were going to do it, together with Mr. Karp. I had butterflies. we complied with every law that has been written. Mr. Karp was incredible. He had contacts everywhere, and they all assisted us!! It was fabulous. And the" dog that bite the federal government employee", was released on November 21, 2012, to a boarding shelter, two counties away, alive and doing well. Although it is still necessary to find Kane a permanent home, we, as his owners are extremely thankful, that Kane is alive and free, and we owe it entirely to Mr. Adam Karp, our friend.

Frank, Respectful, Forceful, and Fair

Since I am a lawyer, I was probably a difficult client. But Adam was very respectful. My wife and I rescue animals. And sometimes these animals have been severely damaged by other humans. We are grateful for Adam, who shares our sense of responsibility towards animals. And we are grateful for his... frank yet respectful style and his forceful yet fair representation.

Excellent, Communicative Attorney: Something All Too Rare!

Mr. Karp worked a case for my organization in Washington state. His conscientiousness and consideration of our limited funding was so much appreciated. Throughout my ten years leading an animal rights organization, I have had too many occasions to use attorneys for my own liking. Through these often-...difficult treks through the legal system, I've learned that most attorneys are very poor in their client communications, and run around preparing for a case at the last minute. But I never got the feeling Mr. Karp was like this. He was always prepared, always thinking, and always kept us informed about what was going on with the case. That is very rare in his field, and I wanted to say "Kudos" and thank you to him. He is very good at what he does.

Outstanding attorney - absolutely first rate

I hired Adam seven months ago to defend me, my dog, and my dog walker in a very tricky and arduous case. We just settled with the City of Seattle last week and I could not be more satisfied with the end result. Adam was nothing short of first rate throughout the whole process – he got back to me ...very quickly, his legal strategies were always dead on, his knowledge of animal law is nothing short of exceptional, etc. I hope I never need to hire an attorney again who specializes in animal law, but if I do I will certainly hire Adam. We are very lucky to have someone with his stellar credentials in the Pacific Northwest. I can’t possibly recommend him enough. Thank you Adam, for all your help to keep my “family” intact.
