Susan E. Skelton, “A Lawyer you can talk to.”
Practicing Law in Everett and Snohomish, WA
I graduated law school in 2003 in St. Louis, MO and opened my own firm, where I focused on personal bankruptcy (Chapters 7 and 13), debtor defense/consumer law, and estate planning, including wills, trusts, durable power of attorneys and probate matters. I had a very successful law firm for over 10 years in St. Louis, prior to moving to Washington.
My family and I moved to Snohomish in September 2013. For several years, I stayed at home with my young children and was extremely active in non-profit work and volunteering in the community. My husband and I run a community dinner twice a month through our church and I am involved with our church’s free clothing closet and as well as the church’s teen drop-in center.
Although I plan to continue to volunteer in the community, now that my children are older and are now in school full time, I have begun practicing law again in the areas of personal bankruptcy (Chapters 7 and 13), and estate planning, including wills, trusts, durable power of attorneys, and probate matters. I am very passionate about helping families take care of important legal issues and I work very hard to keep my fees affordable.
I offer a free conversation with anyone that may have questions about the areas of law I practice and work on a flat fee basis, so you know up front what your costs will be. Feel free to call me at to discuss your legal issue.

Skelton Law Firm is a wonderful team of understanding, patient, and efficient people. We found this firm after two other firms didn’t meet our needs. ( We needed more care along this journey.) We had Haley as our Lawyer, Owen answered phone questions and helped direct us ( he was full of knowledge),...

I hired Susan Skelton to file a bankruptcy. She explained I had to have her paid in full and file within six months. After two months her husband contacted me and offered a reduced rate to file early because he and Susan were moving away. I was not able to pay the remaining balance that soon and d...
This client made no payment toward her bankruptcy in over 3 months and was offered a substantially reduced price to file prior to my leaving the state, which she declined. She also signed a contract that stated that once a file was opened and work commenced on the file that there would be a standard 2 hours charged for work done at $200/hour. Clients initial meeting was well over an hour and included pulling 2 credit reports and reviewing all debts with client; a petition was prepared with debts and income to determine eligibility and a Legal Services Agreement was signed, which outlined the charges entailed in opening a file. Client was also given instruction to pay all agreed-upon consent judgments, which she signed prior to hiring our office, to avoid garnishment of her bank accounts, which she did not follow. Once client was garnished, she was given detailed instructions on how to claim the proper exemptions in order to protect her bank account; I am unaware if she followed said instructions, as she promptly fired my office. Client later filed a bar complaint, which was deemed unfounded by the Missouri Bar, as she was offered many chances to file her case and was given advice on protecting her bank account in order to file. I am sorry client was unhappy, but our office did our best to assist her and worked on her file and spoke with her numerous times to try to resolve her issue.
"I endorse this lawyer as Susan is a knowledgable and experienced bankruptcy attorney. She cares about her clients and treats them well."
