Joel Geelan

Joel is amazing! He is everything you want in a lawyer: confident, knowledgeable, supportive. I have been involved in the Oregon Judicial system for many years on account of domestic violence, divorce, and custody issues with my abusive ex-husband. I have had many lawyers who were insensitive to the... toll that an abusive relationship can have and were not able to stand up for me in the way I needed them to in order to keep myself and my family safe. I lost faith in the Oregon Justice system’s ability to help people like myself. My experience with Joel was completely different. From the beginning he was sensitive to my situation and made it clear that he was capable of representing me in a way that was knowledgeable and respectful. Joel did not let me down. He was diligent, hardworking, and firm in responding to any antagonistic behavior fro my ex-husband. He always gave me options to decide what I wanted to do, but was honest about how each option could affect me. Joel was a model of compassion and justice when we had to go to court, and I left the courthouse regaining my own strength and belief in doing the right thing to keep myself and my family safe. I am so grateful to Joel, and I feel so fortunate to be able to have had the opportunity to have him on my side. I recently had the privilege of having Mr. Joel Geelan as my attorney. My case was a very difficult one from the start. I was in a very abusive marriage with what looked like no way out. I fled the state of Connecticut with my two children looking for refuge and safety. When I arrived in Oregon, ...I was put on a waiting list for almost a year just to talk with legal aide. I was told with the duel state issue, domestic violence, filing for divorce, and custody battle my case was just too complex; No one could help me. I was grateful that with all these hard and complicated issues Gevurtz and Menashe agreed to let Mr. Geelan take on my case Pro Bono. In what was a very scary and emotional time for me, Mr. Geelan stood by me through the whole entire divorce process. Not once did he make me feel like I was just another case. I really felt he truly was looking out for the girls and I and cared about what happened to us. He went above and beyond making sure I understood the process, even making sure I knew all possible outcomes. I liked that he always kept a positive outlook even when explaining worst case scenarios.
