Warning: Baxter Law employs attorney Paul “Heath” Hattaway, who mishandled my family law case. In my experience, he failed to properly file my out-of-state child-custody order with the Deschutes County Court and instead attached it as an exhibit. Communication and billing practices during my case wer...e troubling — my trust account balance dropped unexpectedly, and when I raised concerns, Mr. Hattaway withdrew from representation. Afterward, I learned that Mr. Hattaway was publicly disciplined by the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board in 2024 for neglecting a client’s case, failing to communicate, and practicing law while ineligible. The Board found that his misconduct caused nearly $90,000 in damages to a client, and it imposed a 60-day suspension (fully deferred). Based on both my experience and his documented disciplinary history, I cannot recommend Mr. Hattaway or Baxter Law for family-law matters. We hired Heath to help with a high conflict custody issue between my husband and his ex-wife. Heath immediately understood the dynamics of the situation. He fought hard for what he knew was right and he got us the best possible outcome in court. Heath is a strong advocate for his clients and cares ab...out justice and fairness. Heath won’t sell you a load of bull he’ll tell you if what you’re asking for is reasonable and he’ll tell you if what you’re asking for is unreasonable He’s not going to let you walk into court and look like an idiot. I firmly believe that his honesty with us is the reason that we walked into court and got what we were asking for. We walked in looking like the reasonable party and we walked out happy with the results. I would recommend Heath to anybody that’s dealing with custody issues or a high conflict divorce he’s definitely a realist and will let you know what you can expect and what is unreasonable.
