About me

I am a graduate of UC Berkeley (Bachelor of Arts in English) and Lewis and Clark Law School (Juris Doctorate).  I have practiced civil and criminal law throughout Oregon for over a decade and have a reputation for excellence with judges, other attorneys, but most importantly former and current clients.  I am a lawyer because I want to help people.  I am a litigator because I love to go to trial.  Please read more about how I can help you with your legal matter below.

Criminal defense and juvenile delinquency

I know it can be daunting to face a criminal prosecution with potential jail time and the additional loss of freedom and privileges through court fines, probation intrusions, license suspensions and the impact on your reputation at work and in your community.  I have helped hundreds of clients through criminal proceedings of all types and pride myself on making sure that my client is aware of all possible defenses and that they make an informed decision whether or not to take the matter to trial or accept a plea offer.  Whichever option you choose, I will take the time to explain all the risks and benefits in an effort to help you maintain your humanity through this often dehumanizing process.

Divorce and custody

Family law is complex because the laws are ever-changing and every family law client is in a unique situation. I believe that successful advocacy requires taking the time to get to know my clients and the reasons they have come to me for legal assistance. Only then can I employ my experience and expertise to tailor specific legal solutions to fit the needs of each client.  I have successfully advocated for many clients by negotiating out-of-court settlements and have also obtained desired outcomes through litigation.

Personal injury

Unlike some personal injury lawyers who take only serious injury cases, I will take any case where there is provable injury that is the result of someone else's negligence or intentional act.  This is why I do not advertise big verdicts to potential clients and also affords me the luxury of being honest with my clients about what their injury is worth.  If we do not get a settlement offer that is fair or just to you, I will take the case to a jury.  If you are disabled and unable to work, I also assist with your disability claim.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority.

  1. Suspension partially stayed placed on probation
    issued in OR, 2015

Stayed suspension/probation means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The suspension is placed on hold (and ultimately removed) if the attorney complies with certain requirements. The State also monitors the lawyer's activities for a period of time in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
