Outstanding Attorney and Human Being
My experience with attorney Mr. Daniel Stotter has been exemplary. His knowledge of the FOIA process in dealing with the U.S. State Department is vast and very detailed. His level of compassion and understanding on a human level is great, as my FOIA concerns the tragic death of my only sister and her unborn child, in a foreign country. There are many challenges when one files a FOIA request and Mr. Stotter's guidance and legal expertise in this area of law is invaluable. I am very confident with his representation the outcome will be successful. I highly recommend him ! Chaplain Michael Green Former Chaplain, Marine Corps League

Scholar and Journalist
Daniel and his team are exceptional. They have helped me obtain records from the CIA, NSA, and other federal agencies. Those records have featured in both my scholarship and reporting. In addition, Daniel has schooled me in the complex world of FOIA. I still work with Daniel, and I intend to use his services for as long as he is in business.

A life saver.
A big firm in San Francisco recommended Dan Stotter when I'd exhausted all other avenues. I'm a journalist and author by trade, and had a FOIA request that was blatantly ignored by a government agency. I needed help, but lawyers were reluctant to go the distance given that I had limited funds. They also weren't sure that my request rose to the level of the public's need-to-know. Well, Stotter believed in it, and carefully yet forcefully got the government to fulfill its legal obligations. He is forthright, professional, and clear. I highly recommend Daniel Stotter, and while I hope I never have reason to use his services again, I hope others will.

Business owner
I have worked with Daniel Stotter on more than 30 FOIA lawsuits during the past 12 years. As the representative for two non-profit organizations, it is my opinion that Mr. Stotter is extremely knowledgeable regarding all aspects of FOIA law and is one of the best (if not THE BEST) FOIA attorneys in the U.S. Mr. Stotter’s professionalism and ethics are beyond reproach. He communicates well and is very organized. Mr. Stotter has never lost a case as our attorney and I highly recommend him.

Great LAWYER .
Mr. Stotter has handled my daughter's CRBA (Consular Report of Birth Abroad) case successfully; this was a very challenging case during almost 4 years. He helped me retrieve my FOIA records and really used his professionalism to deal with a US Consulate overseas; his support and advice were very relieving (I was so desperate ) despite the distance from where I live ( Maryland ) I really felt myself very close to him during the whole process. I really recommend Mr.Stotter to anyone who has a serious matter. I greatly appreciate his professionalism.

Very good experience
Many years ago, not too long into Dan's legal career, my wife and I hired him for an "OJ" case; a criminal case that had to be pursued through civil means. Although the alleged crimes involved white collar offenses rather than violent offenses, the emotions and confrontational feelings were extreme and the case was quite complex. (Eventually appealed to the Oregon Supreme Court.) We won about 90% of the verdict. Dan's performance in this difficult case was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, cool, thoughtful, able to work under pressure, and creative. Our experience with him as an attorney was very good.

Outstanding Legal Advice
Mr. Stotter recently assisted me with some advice regarding a complex legal matter. I found him to be responsive and exceptionally knowledgeable about key cases in the field. He offers a free consultation that breaks down your legal issues into ones that are clear to understand. I would definitely contact him again and recommend to others.

FOIA consult
Mr. Stotter displayed characteristics that are not typical of the average attorney, he provided straight forward, direct, and honest feedback and opinions of a described FOIA issue during the free consult he provided. He also displayed flexibility in examining options that would be available for him to interject on behalf of the client at various stages of the process. I have dealt with many attorneys, and say that I highly recommend this one.

Way, way back and very, very good
Many years ago my wife and I were involved with a very complicated and difficult (and almost impossible to describe briefly) real estate transaction involving real estate fraud. We were not motivated so much by our personal experience but by a desire to stop an activity we believed was hurting many other people over many years. Our attempts to involve white collar law enforcement had not been successful at that time. Dan and his then partner took on our case on a mostly contingency basis. It led to a spectacular, dramatic, and lengthy civil trial. Dan worked with great energy, imagination, and dedication and pulled off a spectacular win, appealed (and upheld all the way) to the Oregon Supreme Court. I have no hesitation in giving him the highest possible recommendation.

This is the Attorney you want!!
The day we met Dan at his office, we knew he could take care of our needs. He was very knowlegeable about the whole process on our temorary land use permit. He guided us through every step. Not only did he treat us like we were human beings he coached us in the process. He worked very well with the staff from Lane County and that was a big plus for us, as we were changing what things we could do on our property. He was very professional and at the same time was making sure that we did everything in a cost efficient way. We know that most definetly in the future if we ever need an attorney we will call Dan.

Great Attorney!
Dan Stotter took my organization's case when no one else would. Working pro bono over a period of several years (!), he created legal precendent and a decision in our favor. I cannot recommend him highly enough. If you are seeking a decent, patient, and highly skilled FOIA lawyer, you have found one in Dan Stotter.

*** Daniel J. Stotter ... Freedom Of Speech Rights Defender ***
Worked closely on case, answered questions, and followed through on legal details efficiently. Passionate on defending Constitutional law, relative to the First Amendment. Recommended highly.

Excellent lawyer
I had a very frustrating case involving the University of Oregon and the State of Oregon, and Mr. Stotter was very helpful in bringing the case to a settlement which was better than I expected. He was very straightforward and honest with me about all aspects of the case, and things worked out just as he anticipated they would. I would highly recommend Mr. Stotter.

Sincere, Trustworthy and Kind
We have known Dan Stotter for nearly eight years and have seen firsthand how effectively he handles civil cases. He lead our neighborhood organization through a complex legal battle that no one thought we could win. It took four years but we prevailed, thanks to dan and his guidance and his willingness to mentor some of our neighbors through much paperwork in order to save legal fees. That would seem to work against his ability to earn a living, but earns him a reputation for being honest, fair and concerned with helping people who do not have a lot of financial resources. Then on a personal note he helped us through a difficult situation with a less than honest contractor of our kitchen remodel with the same effectiveness and cost saving approach. We greatly appreciate all he has done for us and our neighborhood.

Fantastic Attorney
I had a very long on-going case...Mr. Stotter was recommended to me by an attorney....Mr. Stotter was up front. and honest with me. He told me roughly what to expect as we worked through the lawsuit...He always told me what his fees were ..and allowed us to pay as we were going through the process. He was always responsive, knowledgeable, and made sure I was informed on the proceedings. If I ever need an attorney again.I wouldn't hesitate to call him. Our meetings were made around my schedule...and far enough in advance that I could give my employer notice. He was very sensitive to my problem and made every effort to help me.

Review of Daniel J. Stotter by Maxine B. Russell
Attorney Daniel J. Stotter has been absolutely wonderful. He is professional, articulate, thorough, compassionate, and very knowledgeable. I have used him to help me get FOIA (Freedom Of Information Requests) that I filed over three years ago as well as new ones which have been filed. He has been so diligent in making these requests, keeping me informed, and letting me know my rights. I would recommend him without hesitation.

A bad lawyer
If you have a different view to Mr Stotter and you express it, rather than calmly and professionally explain his reasoning, he terminates any agreement to represent you. Personally, I feel like I was saved from making a huge mistake. I will always ask questions and voice my opinions. Mr Stotter doesn't like that. He wants to you to shut up, take his advice as God's word, and pay him ridiculous retainer fees.

Anti-Christian
Mr Stotter used language that was clearly unprofessional and qualified as religious hate speech... I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the bar association. For instance he suggested I had Christian brain rot and then addressed me as Mr Jesus. All this simply because identified my faith as being Christian. If you're looking for an ethical lawyer I suggest looking elsewhere.
