Biography
After 15 years as the managing shareholder of the Portland criminal defense firm Kohlmetz, Steen & Hanrahan, PC, on January 2, 2018 Mr. Kohlmetz formed the Law Office of Andrew M. Kohlmetz, LLC to better serve his current and future clients. Mr. Kohlmetz focuses on the defense of good peopl ewho find themselves charged in serious and complex felony cases in all Oregon federal and state courts. Mr. Kohlmetz also takes on a limited number of appeals in both the state court of appeals and the Ninth Circuit federal court of appeals.
His professional memberships include The United States District Court for the District of Oregon, The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, The Oregon State Bar Association, the Oregon Criminal Defense Attorneys Association (OCDLA), the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys (NACDL), and the Multnomah County Bar Association.
Mr. Kohlmetz currently serves on the State of Oregon Governor's Asset Forfeiture Oversight Advisory Committe, an appointment he has held since 2013. He also currently sits nd on the board of directors of the Portland Defense Consortium, a non-profit organization that provides for the administration and oversight of the provision of privately contracted public defense cases in Multnomah County. Mr. Kohlmetz is active in the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association having previousl served a four year term on its Board of Directors. He received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree cum laude from Hobart College, Geneva N.Y., in 1990. He graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1995.
