George Edson Murphy

When I was a law student over 30 years ago, I knew I wanted to be an appellate lawyer. In my third year I was chosen to serve as Judicial Extern for the Chief Justice of the Alaska Supreme Court. I received school credits for it, was paid a small amount, learned a great deal about the appellate process and fell in love with Alaska.

After graduating from law school, the California Court of Appeal hired me to be the Judicial Attorney for Justice Frances Newell Carr. That was another great experience.  I learned so much about the internal workings of the appellate court and honed my skills in analyzing issues and legal writing. Justice Carr was a fantasic person and mentor.

I eventually left the Court of Appeal and started the appeals department at a large Sacramento law firm. Subsequently, I started a new law firm with my current partners and continued my focus on appellate law. Since leaving the Court of Appeal I've handled several hundred appellate matters.

I live with my family in the Sacramento area and travel all over the State to represent clients on appeal.  When I'm not working I'm playing guitar or watching one of my kids play baseball.  We love the outdoors and try to go camping when we can get away. We also enjoy traveling to distant locations, but have difficulty finding the time.
