The school district was investigating racist incident at son's high school. Their legal office out of nowhere sent an intimidating email on a Friday morning demanding to interview my son in the principal's office on the following Monday morning. He had nothing to do with the incident, nor did he have any knowledge of who did. Given this, and because of the investigator's threatening tone, I got a referral to talk with Ms Ball. Long story short, I retained her services on behalf of my son, she contacted the district investigators reminding them of my son's rights. Instead of an interview at the intimidating atmosphere of the principal's office during school hours, she was able to schedule the interview after school via zoom. She attended the interview with my son and I. She stopped any questions that were beyond the scope of the investigation. Well worth the time and investment. Highly recommend her to protect your family's rights and interests.
When you find your child being mistreated by the school system, it can be a difficult process.
Our daughter was suspended, and we felt we were unjustly being bullied by the principal and vice principal of her school.
It took us a few weeks before we were able to figure out what we needed to do, and that was when we contacted Michelle. She contacted the school district's attorneys and discovered that the suspension was against the school's own policy. So the principal of the school was forced to remove the suspension from our daughter's record.
We were happy with the end results, and I would not hesitate to use Michelle Ball in the future to protect our rights. She was easy to communicate with, personal and understanding.
Highly recommend!

Helped us in our son’s difficult and complicated case.
The entire process of finding an educational attorney can be intimidating and difficult. We are glad we found Michelle. Michelle Ball helped us in our son’s difficult and complicated case. Our son was accused by another student of wrongdoing on his walk home from school. Upon the school learning of this, relying almost exclusively on the accusers version of the events, illegally interrogated our son along with the police and suspended him with a recommendation for expulsion. Further, the school decided to email the entire school community about the matter.
Michelle negotiated with the district and prepared a diligent and compelling memorandum which resulted in the school dropping the expulsion and agreeing to destroy the records of the event, upon certain conditions. This was a good result given the situation.
Additionally, although we do not live near Michelle's Sacramento office, the distance was not a factor. We successfully communicated via many emails and phone calls. Michelle was speedy with her response times, despite her very busy schedule.
I would recommend Michelle Ball for any family who would ever need an educational lawyer!

She is the BEST!
I found Michelle in my research to help my son in his expulsion case. From the first conversation, she was extremely understanding and helpful, and she assisted us every step of the way. She was very supportive and made us truly feel like we weren't alone in this fight. Although we live in Gilroy and her offices are in Sacramento, the distance wasn't an inhibiting factor at all; she was able to easily help our case from a over a hundred miles away. Instead of going to a hearing that we would surely lose, Michelle found us an out and won my son's position to stay in the district! In a heartbeat, I would recommend Michelle Ball for any family who would ever need an educational lawyer!

Convincing the school district to allow my son repeat 9th grade.
I can not thank enough Michelle, for the great help and professionalism she had shown while solving our situation with my son. Through her hard work, dedication and ingenuity she was able to convince the school district ,that my son deserves to be retained and allowed to repeat 9th grade. The district was pushing him to 10th grade disregarding 3 doctors recommendations.
The school district fought us for several months but eventually we won and the right decision was made.
Michelle was instrumental in battling with the district and make them offer my son what was all along the correct and honest resolution to his specific medical situation.
Michelle is the best!

Perfect clean result
I found Michelle by google search. I visited her website, read the fees information and her articles of professional advice on educational legal matters. I was very encouraged. So I called to make our first consultation appointment. She was very efficient in our meeting. She gave us honest analysis on our case. We hired her without hesitation. She was very responsive and stayed on top of everything. After reading the pre-meeting materials, she gave us advice and strategies. The material was devastating. Michelle told us upfront that it could very likely lead to expulsion. But Michelle managed to negotiate for us to get result of no suspension and no expulsion. We are very happy about this result. Without Michelle, we were not able to get this perfect result. Thank you so much Michelle!!!

Protecting the rights of a dyslexic student
My learning disabled daughter had her 504 plan terminated unjustly. They told us that because my dyslexic daughter was earning fantastic grades she was no longer eligible for accommodations through a 504 plan. I consulted with Ms. Ball regarding her legal rights. She felt that the school district had definitely made a mistake by making a major change in placement without a new evaluation and informed me that if my daughter didn't receive accommodations in high school she couldn't have them in college. I couldn't allow that to happen. She wrote a letter to the school district stating that my daughter's 504 plan termination was improper and cited pertinent laws. The district had the principal call me and arrange a new 504 meeting. Her accommodations were restored and he made it clear that they would do whatever was needed to support my daughter's academic success. This was a complete 180 degree turn around from the message I was given by the "team" in two lengthy meetings. It was worth the investment (legal fee) to assure that my daughter gets the accommodations she is legally entitled to and very much needs in order to earn the grades for which she is capable.

Best Attorney Ever
I hired Michelle to fight a wrongful expulsion for my daughter. She knows the education codes like the back of her hand, so nothing got passed her. It's like she has a third eye. She kept us informed every step of the way. She'll fight until everyone is satisfied. After it was over we were sad to see her go.

Expelled? Call Michelle!
I would highly recommend Michelle Ball for cases involving education! My child was expelled for bringing a small pocket knife to school. Even though we were not contesting the fact he brought the pocket knife, we were definitely concerned that our District Office wanted to expel him for a whole year. This is a kid that has great grades, active in school and community activities, never missed a day of school and never had any previous blemishes on his school record. I felt the School District office was strong arming me into signing a stipulated expulsion that had no written conditions attached. I didn’t know where else to turn. I had called ½ a dozen attorneys that would give me advice and I ended up selecting Michelle after reading testimonials on her website. I knew right away she was the right attorney to handle our case! Michelle was able to get our child schoolwork and graded while she worked this out with the School District and also got him back into his own school by the start of the next quarter. I would never have been able to do it without her. Michelle is knowledgeable and reliable. She kept me informed and she gave me hope. We are grateful we found her!

When it comes to our kids you want to hire the best and Michelle knows her stuff.

Litigated major problems with Fairfield Suisun Unified School District
When the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District failed to provide federally-mandated aid for my daughter, and then tried to expel her for those very same problems - problems that could have been readily solved if the school had done what it was supposed to do - we were forced to seek legal help. Michelle brought the school district to understand that they were greatly negligent, held them to their responsibilities, and had them sign a legally-binding agreement. A year later, when the school district once again tried to go without providing the required assistance, I was able to remind them that they were in violation of the agreement and the school then began acting properly again. Michelle dealt in a highly professional manner with the school district. If you are reading this and are having problems with Fairfield Suisun Unified School District, don't expect them to act fairly - they won't - sign nothing and call Michelle Ball immediately. I can't say enough good about her; she's everything one would want in this situation.

Michelle Ball Gives Hope
Michelle helped us with a serious situation that had been decided and closed when we did not know where to turn, what to do, or how to move forward. She did so much prep work to fight our case and the results were outstanding. We really had no hope left in our situation when we came to her but we were on top of the world when the case was resolved. Thank you Michelle!!

High School Diplomas are for the academically challenged as well.
Ms. Ball was successful in guaranteeing that our son received the proper consideration to achieve academic success in high school. Our son was challenged and the schol district failed to accomodate in in a proper manner. Her knowledge and preserverance enabled us to get school district resources needed to ensure our sons successful completion of his high school program.

Call Michelle
Michelle Ball has on more than one occasion “Came to our rescue” dealing with School District issues. Unfortunately, these days school districts are so bound up by their own educational codes that they no longer have the flexibility to make decisions on their own. I can’t tell you the number of times I had school administrators tell me “Their Hands Are Tied”.
Michelle finds ways to use the very same educational codes to seek fair and equitable resolutions to administration and educational issues. Essentially, untying the hands of the administrators to allow them to develop creative solutions to the many types of problems they are faced with.
I tell anyone who is faced with school administration or educational problems to “Seek Council” and more specifically, call Michelle Ball!

Helped my son tremendously
My son started showing issues in the 3rd grade. He was technically a genius, but couldn't write and had other difficulties. In the 4th grade, we went on a 504, but were still really struggling. By 7th, he was only capable of writing 3-5 word sentences. The school district refused to help and refused to test him for anything. In 9th, I finally convinced them to do some tests in preparation for his SAT, but they again refused to do all the required ones!
So I called Michelle. She was able to get me outside testing and a diagnosis. When presented with the results; the school had to test. She got him full support and full testing-so the computer accommodation from the College Board was easy to get. He is now getting almost straight A's and his ability to function has increased 10x! Teachers no longer call me or him a liar! I would recommend Michelle to ANYONE!
