Disappointing

I contacted Tyler on behalf of my niece on an urgent basis. My niece was out of state and California had refused to accept her documents in response to a child custody battle when she was trying to go pro se. Tyler said he would talk with her right away for $500 and give an assessment of the case. I ...sent the $500, he did provide an assessment that basically said there was not a lot to do until the hearing and quite frankly we didn't feel like he was on my nieces side at all. Because we felt we had an emergency situation (my niece lost custody of her daughter to a guy she never married, and the child had never lived with to a home where the child was sexually molested and my niece never got to file a response or see the mediator's recommendation prior to the hearing - and the mediator continued mediation with the baby daddy after my niece hung up the phone) - we asked Tyler to proceed with his recommendation for a 'set aside motion' and asked for some clarification regarding the temporary order and how it should be handled because it was unclear and we just never heard from him again. Very disappointing to spend $500 that we didn't have right before Christmas and then be ignored and have to start from ground zero on finding another lawyer and bringing them up to speed. We are thankful though that we did find a good attorney who is actually on our side.

Avoids complex issues and client abandonment

I found Mr. Janke on thumbtack. He is a new attorney, previously being an engineer. Quite a change... His rates were reasonable for me, as a low income single mother with a disability. In our two hearings, I believe I was well represented. However, I asked several times for his help to vacate our M...SA. He brushed it aside. Now, that I am adamant to vacate, he told me the six month deadline had passed. He failed to tell me there was also legal precedent to vacate up to two years, and I meet this criteria. Today, mr. Janke informed me he "was not interested" in taking on my case. So be aware. I believe he dumped me due to me lack of funds. because he's moved onto clients who are able to pay more. Also, I question his ability to competently represent me in a complicated issue. If your case is complex, I suggest finding a more experienced attorney.

To read this review is disappointing considering we represented this client twice and both times we forgave about 25% of the remaining bill and we got good results. The last time we represented this client it was for a trial where the spouse was looking to terminate post-judgment support, and we won. Both times we represented this client it was on a limited-scope agreement so there was always the ability to pursue the set-aside of the MSA with other counsel. In fact, it was advised to do so. Last month I was contacted for another hearing and then was again requested to handle the MSA set-aside as a side issue. Again we made it clear to consult another attorney for the MSA matter and in fact to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. During this last contact requesting our services and to set aside the MSA, we were not the attorney of record and therefore did not drop the case for a more lucrative client. In fact, we offered to handle the upcoming hearing as before but advised on getting a 2nd and 3rd opinion elsewhere for the MSA. We take pride in representing our clients and we get results no matter how difficult the issue. If we cannot help with your case or we are not the right fit, it shouldn’t be personal. If you want an attorney who is honest and realistically sets client expectations, our firm is a good place to start your search.
