Daniel Berko has been an attorney since 1980. Mr. Berko has worked on behalf of consumers, tenants and workers his entire career. After graduating from New College of California, a law school that was dedicated to producing lawyers who would fight for the public interest, he entered private practice.
He won a major decision in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (Sutton v. Doubleday) allowing an employee to pursue a claim against his employer as a “Qui Tam” seeking relief on behalf of the United States Government and his fellow employees of Doubleday. He was an amicus (Friend of the Court) whose contribution was specifically cited by the California Supreme Court in support of a major ruling by that Court allowing cases to go forward based on California’s consumer protection statute. He won a settlement on behalf of consumers valued at $4,000,000 against Arco. Arco was also ordered by the Court to change its business practices. He has the largest jury award ever for a single tenant bringing suit under the San Francisco Rent Law. Mr. Berko has tried over 25 cases to jury verdicts and dozens of court trials.
Daniel Berko was the recipient of an award for his commitment to pro bono work by the Bar Association of San Francisco. He has also been a commentator on legal issues on the Local National Public Radio station. He is also member of the San Francisco Tenant BAR.
