Hank Burgoyne is an AV-rated business and intellectual property lawyer with a decade and a half of experience resolving contract, trade secret, Internet, corporate, advertising and related disputes.

As a trained mediator, business owner and one-time federal court clerk, Hank sees his clients’ disputes from a variety of angles. He recognizes that to a client, a dispute looks more like a business problem than a legal case. He therefore takes the time to understand each client’s business, and unique business priorities.  Hank knows that legal disputes can sidetrack even the most forward-looking of companies. He considers it his mission to resolve his clients’ disputes quickly and efficiently, so his clients can stay focused on their businesses.

Hank has an advantage over other business and intellectual property litigators, in that he has negotiated and drafted contracts ranging from software licenses and SaaS terms to executive-level employment and LLC operating agreements. He has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in some of California's most important Internet-related advertising cases, both in the trial courts and before the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. As a former newsroom lawyer, Hank also counsels businesses on trademark, tortious interference and defamation issues, and has secured favorable results in dozens of unfair competition lawsuits. He has particular expertise in trade secret and employee mobility disputes, and in the use of digital forensics and electronic evidence.

Hank graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School, where he was a teaching assistant to former Dean Kathleen M. Sullivan. He then clerked for U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup in San Francisco. After his clerkship, Hank litigated business, intellectual property and technology cases for Keker & Van Nest, an American Lawyer "Litigation Boutique of the Year." Hank also negotiated intellectual property and other commercial agreements for the Silicon Valley office of Greenberg Traurig, and founded Kronenberger Burgoyne, a San Francisco business and Internet litigation boutique.

Extremely intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, and a good listener
I told this to Hank and I'll tell this to you. Hank is a great lawyer. He's extremely intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, and a good listener. In addition, you can tell that he walks through all the angles of a lawsuit meticulously in his head. It’s good that he’s an extremely level-headed person. Hank represented me in a suit that lasted roughly a year. Going through a legal battle, you're going to exchange tons of messages with your lawyer. Hank was not only communicative and responded to my messages quickly, but was always receptive to what I had to say. In addition, he has a way of simplifying technical lawyer speak, and often has great analogies that provide you more meaning and context to complex situations. Going through a lawsuit can also be very stressful, but Hank is very relatable and does a good job of making you feel prepared and at relative ease. He's a quality lawyer, and comes highly recommended.

LW
Hank Burgoyne turned one of the most stressful experiences of my life into a positive outcome. Hank was very thoughtful in how he clarified my goals, and brought an extremely high quality array of expertise to bear to achieve them. He was efficient, systematic and willing to fit around my timelines. He was also sensitive to my budget thresholds. I really appreciated how Hank turned what felt like a mountain into a manageable series of molehills. He was very personable and cut through the usual “lawyer talk” to get to the real issues. I felt like my view was respected and that I could trust his recommendations. I can’t recommend him highly enough

Not only talented but exceptionally kind and compassionate
Hank is not only exceptionally talented (as evidenced by his Stanford JD law degree), but is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever met. I was introduced to Hank through a friend regarding an issue that most lawyers wouldn't bat an eye at given the amount at stake, but was incredibly distressing for me personally. Hank was so generous with his time and each and every time he gave me invaluable advice that I could have never found on my own and no other lawyer would have taken the time to find and share with me. I would absolutely recommend Hank.
