It's not easy to be a single dad, trying to get through family court with a tough divorce. Mary was recommended to me by a friend, and she has been very professional. I like that she listens to me and makes me feel heard, while at the same time keeping me grounded and realistic in my expectations o...f the court. She has never given me unrealistic hopes, while at the same time she has given her best efforts and achieved more than I had dared to hope. I have an ex who is focused on destroying me and taking my kids away, to the extent that she opposed family counseling for our kids because that would interfere with her ability to manipulate them. It took over 5 years of legal battles, the last 3 of which were with Mary. Throughout all of this, I did my part and followed Mary’s advice, letting her call the shots and set the legal strategy. I had to accept that the legal system isn’t always logical or fair, and you just have to make the best of what there is. That having been said, it still turned out good in the end; I just had to be patient and keep taking one step at a time. Sometimes it seemed like it would never end. One thing is absolutely certain – the only thing more expensive than a good attorney is not having one!!! I have known too many people who tried to go it alone without an attorney, with disastrous results. Speaking of money, Mary will work with you. She will let you do a lot of leg work, running back and forth to file things with the court and so forth, to help manage the cost. It still isn’t cheap (I have yet to meet a good attorney that is), but if you make this your first priority and put off all other unnecessary expenses it will be so worth it in the end! You just have to keep moving forward and trust that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Being a single dad in the family court system can be very frustrating and discouraging, but I hung in there because I don’t want my kids to ever think I gave up on them. Mary understood. It cost me a lot of money, but she did a really good job and in the end I overcame the adversity and my ex was finally put in check by the court. I have joint custody, can claim one kid for taxes, I pay a reasonable amount for child support, my kids and I are in counseling and my relationship with them is getting better (they used to blame me for everything). I'm a very satisfied client!
