Amazing Attorney!!!!

I was arrested in late 2013 on a 290 related charge. I had no idea what 290 was and I was scared out of my mind. I didn't know anything about choosing the right attorney for my case. I didn't know of any criminal attorneys, so I went online to look for an attorney. I no longer had a computer since it... was seized, and it seemed that every attorney I spoke with, told me what I wanted to hear, but couldn't tell me anything concrete without paying a ton up front. I needed an attorney fast but didn't know who to choose. At the time, time, fear, ignorance, and pride kept me from doing what I would consider as proper research. In the end, I hired the wrong attorney and my case got botched by someone who wasn't truly familiar of the repercussions/consequences of being a 290 registrant. While I was awaiting my trial, I learned of Chance through a counseling therapy session. I heard he was super knowledgeable about 290 cases, but I was too scared to fire my attorney with my trial around the corner. At the time, Instead of a trial, I agreed to a plea deal at the urging of my previous attorney. After agreeing to the deal, did I slowly discover the horrible nature of what it meant to be a 290 registrant. When I mention slowly, that's exactly how I discovered it. The law is so vague and online research so difficult, that it's hard to quickly know what ALL the potential consequences to being 290 will be. Then as time passes, like an onion, the layers of aftermath begin to surface; to the point of where you regret taking the plea deal more than ever, because being a 290 registrant is a life long punishment. Needless to say, I contacted Chance Oberstein in 2014 and he took the time to take my call and explain my situation to me from the eyes of someone who had been through it. He truly knew what I was going through. I later visited him for a consultation to see what my options were. His office is quite far from where I live, over 1.5 hours of driving each way, but in the end, I was glad I agreed to meet him at his office for the consult. He had been able to help focus my fears from what was happening and helplessness, to what I could do about it. In the end, I hired Chance Oberstein for post-conviction navigation and termination of my 5 year probation. Unlike other attorneys, Chance actually continues to respond to his clients after getting paid. He would always return my calls, if he didn't pickup; and on the call, he would be compassionate, sincere, and un-rushed. Whenever I needed to travel for work purposes, Chance would guid me through what I needed to do. Although I knew I wasn't Chances' only client, I sure felt like I was the most important one. Through Chances' knowledge and guidance, the court terminated my probation after 3 yrs instead of 5yrs. My family and I are eternally grateful for Chance Oberstein. I cannot recommend him highly enough. If you or a loved one is in need of a criminal defense lawyer in a 290 related case, you need to call Chance Oberstein. Thank you Chance!

Chance Oberstein the Attorney you can Trust!

I met Mr. Oberstein while attending an ACSOL meeting, in which Chance was on the board! We set up a consultation. I was so impressed by his knowledge and professionalism! I had come from Simi Valley all the way to Laguna Niguel (2 1/2 hour drive). Chance advised me of the steps that I needed to take ...to get off of registration! I immediately hired Chance! I live in a very conservative county of Ventura. Chance came all the way to represent me. Chance was so professional and confident that he went in front of the other attorneys waiting to talk to the DA. Was I impressed! Chance got the Judge to grant the Dismissal! We then talked about my next step and what I needed to do. Chance to me is an Angel! The ACSOL group has the honor of having Chance as their President! Yes, Chance is not the cheapest attorney but he gets things done! He is always available for questions you may have or even problems that might have come up! I trust Chance with my life! I was so weary of any attorney. The moment I talked to Chance, I felt at ease. Chance is up on all legislation that is changing constantly! Put your trust in Chance Oberstein! I did! Am I glad I did!!!!

Incredible job - helped me get a Certificate of Rehabilitation

Chance Oberstein helped me get my life back after twelve years of anxiety as a registered sex offender. This is a minor miracle. I believe Chance is simply the most competent specialist in post-conviction relief for sex offenders in California. For Chance, winning relief for eligible registrants ...is a cause and a passion. He does not approach these cases with a “business-as-usual” attitude. He takes great pride in helping people restore their lives. In 2005, I was convicted of a misdemeanor sex offense. Fortunately, my offense was one of the few that qualified for a Certificate of Rehabilitation and removal from the registry. In 2015, I began a serious search for help in obtaining my COR. I started by consulting the attorneys I used to get my termination of probation and expungement. They seemed flummoxed by the COR process, so I had to look elsewhere. I interviewed the lawyers my former attorneys recommended, as well as someone who was recommended by the Bar Association. These attorneys also did not inspire confidence. They either knew little about CORs, had no documented success in obtaining them for clients, charged exorbitant fees, or hyped false promises of success. One even discouraged me from applying. I was really at the end of my options when I found Chance. I knew immediately by the questions he asked me that he was an expert in these cases. Unlike the other attorneys, he was realistic and focused. He wanted to make sure I truly qualified before he took my case. The road to a COR is complex, draining, and and nerve-wracking. It involves asking friends to write letters in support, subjecting yourself and others to intense scrutiny by investigators, anticipating court dates with anxiety, overcoming possible glitches, and dealing with numerous other hurdles. Making the COR even more confusing is the inconsistency in both procedures and outcomes among the various jurisdictions in California. It is very hard to find comparative information that you can use to guide you in your county. Chance has so much experience and success with these cases that he can help you navigate the bureaucracy in your particular situation. The COR is not a process that should be undertaken without expert help and advice. It is requires that the attorney helping you be available for questions, emotionally supportive, and determined above all else to win your case. When I finally got my COR in San Francisco, after a year of delays due to changes in personnel at the DA’s office, among other setbacks, I could barely believe the ordeal was finally over. I can’t express my gratitude enough for Chance’s constant guidance through this grueling process. Chance is the authority on post-conviction relief for sex offenders. No other attorney that I interviewed even came close in terms of knowledge, experience, and professionalism. On top of his expertise, Chance offers personal understanding of what it means to be in the vise-grip of anxiety about constantly changing registration laws. If you have any opportunity at all for relief from registration and want the most competent counsel in California, don’t waste your time with other attorneys. Consult with Chance Oberstein first.

Superb

Chance Oberstein is an exceptional attorney. I recently became eligible for a certificate of rehabilitation. Because my commitment offense related to sex with a minor I knew it would be an uphill battle. I met with Mr. Oberstien for a consultation and we reviewed my case. Once he determined that I wa...s indeed eligible for a certificate of rehabilitation I retained him. His price was very fair. I had gotten several quotes and his was by far the most reasonable, particularly considering his skill level. The county I reside in does it’s best never to grant certificates of rehabilitation to anyone with a sex offense involving a minor. During the course of the investigation D.A. investigators harassed my family and my neighbors as well as me. In addition to providing a buffer between those members of law enforcement harassing me, and handling all aspects of my Certificate of Rehabilitation filing, Chance provided moral support as I went through these stressful events. Most lawyers have a very poor bedside manner but he was empathetic and kind and that was very helpful. The D.A. and the judge did all they could short of breaking the law to try and prevent our success but our case was so well prepared and airtight that it left them no legal foundation to deny it. They would have exploited any small oversight or mistake on our part. There were none. If they had denied it we had a plan for how to appeal and beat them in that phase. We were prepared for anything. Other attorneys I spoke with in the area told me that I was wasting my time even applying in my county and that I would not succeed. We did succeed. I am no longer forced to register. I have recovered my freedom. I am beyond grateful. If you are serious about getting your certificate of rehabilitation Chance Oberstein is by far the best option.

I highly recommend Chance

I was impressed from the start and hired Chance immediately after our first meeting. He was highly informed and very straightforward with the entire legal process moving forward in regards to my case. He explained in detail each step of the process to eventually get to a point of early probation term...ination, reduction, expungement, and an eventual certificate of rehabilitation. I have been working with him for two years now as he has been there for me through a probation issue and most recently a successful early termination of probation (One and a half years early!) He has been such an asset in regards to my situation and I couldn't be more grateful to have someone like him on my side. He has always gone out of his way to make himself available when needed and he always has taken the time to answer all of my questions and concerns without making me feel like it was ever a burden. My experience with my previous attorney was completely opposite so Chance has been a very welcome change. His fees are also very fair in terms of what you get. I guarantee if you went to another attorney, you would pay way more money and get far less effort and time. I see now why he came so highly recommended.
