Chance Xcaliber Oberstein

Having a sex offense already has you pinned behind a rock and hard place. I had tried to reduce my charge to a misdemeanor with a different lawyer many years ago, but probation and the DA did not merit it. I was lost until I was referred to Mr. Oberstein. Mr. Oberstein was very sympathetic with ...my plight and took on my case despite the uphill battle that lay before us. He was very up front and laid out all the possibilities, including not getting the decision that we both would like. It took a lot of planning and patience to prepare for my case. Mr. Oberstein was able to provide a plethora of legal statutory support for all what the court would have thrown out or not acknowledge and he did it with a calm decorum during the court session. That display reminded me of a cliche, "A good attorney knows the law; a great attorney knows the judge." I am afraid of being at court, but Mr. Oberstein kept me afloat. Mr. Oberstein reminded me of what was laid out and how the chances have improved since the first time I tried, but also reminded me there is no guarantee. In the end, the judge reduced my charge to a misdemeanor. I was and am still in shock at the decision because the success rate for my type of case is not great. There is so much gratitude that I owe to Mr. Oberstein and his tactful planning. Although reducing a charge to a misdemeanor is a small hill to many, to a person with a post-conviction sex crime, this is a significant mountain to overcome. It signifies that the State of California believes in your efforts of rehabilitation to grant the reduction. Mr. Oberstein has given me a strong foundation for the next step in my post-conviction strive to regain my life and I thank God for blessing me with Mr. Oberstein's help.

Genuinely Grateful! When I met Chance some years back. I was on parole looking at 20 years (yikes). I set up a consultation with Mr. Oberstein. Where he was able to break down the law to me. I thought for sure I was NEVER getting off. It felt like I was being set up for failure. Any number of thin...gs could happen in 20 years. Especially if a parole agent doesn’t like you. Arm with the information Mr.Oberstein gave me. I was able to meet with my parole agent and their supervisor. To discuss new developments Mr. Oberstein was able to provide me with. Needless to say they were shocked that I knew such information. Things started turning around 4 months later for me. First 20 years turned to 10 years. Then 10 years turned to 3 years. Next thing I knew I was off parole. All it took was one encounter at an ACSOL meeting with Mr.Oberstein and my life changed for the better. No more ankle monitors. No more parole. I’m thankful for the way Chance navigated me through the last two years of my 3 year parole. If Not for Chance’s help. I’d still be on parole today.

Hats off to Mr. Oberstein. He is thorough and well prepared. I hired him to get relief from probation early. We were successful without even an oral argument in court. His written statement to the court not only got the Judge's attention but after reading the documents the DA told the judge she had n...o objection. It could not have gone any better. He was prepared for oral arguments and had plenty of documentation if it were necessary. Thank you!!

I met Chance approximately four years ago. I attended the Alliance for Constitutional Sex Offense Laws annual meeting several years in a row on behalf of my son who was convicted of three misdemeanors for indecent exposure. My biggest regret was not hiring Chance from the outset which was approximate...ly 8 years ago. Don't make the mistake of hiring a criminal attorney who may not understand the complexities of the law. I hired Chance in June 2019 to pursue a petition for dismissal. Chance came through early July and notified us that my son's petition for dismissal was successful. Now we live with the hope he will be able to be completely removed from the registry either through a certificate of rehabilitation or when the laws change. Chance is the best of the best. He is keeps his word, follows up with questions or concerns. We look forward to forward to retaining him for the next chapter.

Chance helped represent me in my case to obtain a certificate of rehabilitation. I was convicted of indecent exposure that carried a requirement to register as a sex offender. From the 1st time I spoke with Chance I had great comfort that he was very experienced in this particular field. Chance was a... big help in getting all my letters of recommendation including my personal letter addressed to the court. I was very nervous about my court case as the court awarding the certificate of rehabilitation is solely at the courts discretion.
