Hire Lisa!

I made over a hundred thousand dollar mistake by not hiring this woman! My ex husband had the nastiest attorney who dragged out my divorce for 4 years even though my ex was just a realtor, dating a stripper from Vegas (true story)... I have 3 children, and a home I paid for. My weak attorney told me ...to give up some of my 60/40 custody to 50/50 to make the process move faster... 4 years later, my loser ex husband was still falsifying his income at $40,000 gross, asking me for child support... I consulted with Lisa and because I was too close to trial date, I had to stick with who I had... but in meeting her, I received more strength, solid advice and determination than all my blood sucking attorney offered in years! Lisa scares scummy ex spouses and all the attorneys who say negative things about her are AFRAID of her talent. Lisa Hughes, fierce warrior to defend your family.

Advocate for Justice

Today is the 6 month anniversary of getting custody of my daughter back, thanks entirely to Lisa Hughes and her excellent team who answered my call for help in the eleventh hour. I thank God for her daily. After a contentious divorce which lasted 2 years and ended in 2012, my ex moved away to Los... Angeles County in 2015 which was out of the jurisdiction of the Orange County courts. He didn't file a "move away order". That was OK with me, but when I moved with our daughter to Santa Barbara county almost a year later, I was served with an "emergency ex parte' hearing"...because it would be "too dangerous" for our daughter to continue living primarily in my care. The paternal grandmother with deep pockets and a need for control (sort of along the lines of Vito Corleon from the Godfather), decided to hire a fancy attorney and threw the book at me. Through half truths and full out lies, a declaration developed that would make any judge believe their awful accusations. To my horror, they managed to convince this particular judge. I was in hell. I foolishly represented myself at first because I thought the absurdity of the accusations and the fact that my ex didn't even live in Orange County would show the judge that this wasn't a logical move on his part, but more of a contol game. It didn't and she awarded temporary custody to him, who promised the court to move back to OC but never did. So our 14 year old daughter, in reality lived 5 months of her life in an empty apartment he rented for purposes of zoning for the new high school she would have attended had we not moved. He yanked our daughter from the school in Santa Barbara county, her 3rd day of high school and enrolled her back in OC, where neither parent lived. And the judge did not provide any visitation during this period of time. I was at his mercy. He almost convinced the judge to award custody to the grandmother who lives in a neighboring city, which is what they petitioned for. It was the worst time in my life. Given these circumstances, I had no choice but to call the only person I knew who could untangle this mess. She did. If you are even considering that you might be able to find justice in Orange County on your own, you are kidding yourself. You need experts. You need Lisa Hughes and her team to be your advocate and help navigate through what I experienced as a corrupt system. David Wald. Sarah Davidson. Melissa Gomez. Cori Stockman... I'm so grateful for all who fought for my daughter, but most of all Lisa, who stopped what she was doing and responded to my call with genuine compassion and a sense of urgency to help. She didn't mince words, but told me straight they were trying to take my daughter away might just succeed. I will never get over this experience, and I owe everything to Lisa Hughes.

Experienced, practical and results achieved

I am a practicing attorney. When my 12-year marriage fell apart, I knew exactly who I needed to help me, Lisa Hughes. She had the experience, the breadth of knowledge and the reputation that was absolutely required to handle a very unique case that, as it turned out, broke new ground in Orange County... divorce court history. There were many things I thought I knew about the law and process as a practicing attorney, but family law was different. I would not have dared to tread this body of water alone. Lisa, and her team of experienced and helpful associates and paralegals, listened, were sensitive to each of my concerns, and guided me through the divorce maze. They put together a common sense and cost-effective strategy to achieve my goals. Further, being experienced in client relations, even I was surprised by the level of communication I received about every aspect of the case. They were efficient and informative, and continue to be. Often times, I the process triggered high emotions, but Lisa and her team provided counsel to guide me through the difficult times. As is mostly true in litigation, when the other side refuses to settle, litigation costs tend to increase, and this was especially true in my case. It was truly frustrating. My ex-spouse refused to agree to anything, which required me to go to court to obtain the most basic of orders regarding nearly every aspect of my case. Despite this situation, which has extended well over three years, Lisa has found a way to economize and keep fees reasonable. If it weren't for Lisa, and her team, me and my children would not have the orders today that protect us into the future. Whether you are forced to litigate or are lucky enough to have an amicable split, Lisa and the Hughes and Hughes firm are the trusted and experienced firm you want to achieve the results you demand.

There is NO ONE BETTER.

If you are going thru a contentious divorce, and you choose someone else in Orange County to represent you , you will regret it. And you will ultimately end up with Lisa Hughes or getting inadequate representation. I am in a three year battle regarding custody. Mrs Hughes is my third attorney.... Had she been my first, I wouldn't still be embroiled in this mess. I had one awful attorney--Paul Teinert, followed by an expensive waste of time Laurel Brauer---equally awful and beyond unprofessional. And then I consulted with Lisa. She is straight forward, honest, and has more integrity than any attorney I have ever met. She is genuine and watching her in action is brilliant. She fought tooth and nail for me, and I will owe her for the rest of my life. She and Melinda Gomez are a machine, and I am blessed and honored to have them in my corner. I am writing this prior to receiving the judges decision, but no one on this planet could have done the research, put in the time, and fought for me like she did. I don't know if I won yet, but I know Nothing gets past her, no one in the court room commands the respect she does. Not choosing her is choosing to make a huge mistake.

Reprehensible and Inexcusable!

Several years ago, I hired Lisa Hughes to represent me in a nasty custody battle. During the consult, she appeared so warm and caring. She expressed complete empathy regarding my situation and promised that SHE would take care of me. She bragged about her successes and left me feeling that I had s...omeone in my corner who was really going to bat for me. Then I paid a 5-figure retainer...and that was the LAST I saw of Lisa Hughes. She handed me off to an underling associate that was barely out of law school. Lisa had advised me to hire a separate attorney to represent my son. She said not to worry about the $3K cost, I'd get that back in the end. She recommended the attorney and I foolishly hired him.
