Biography
I have built a local and national reputation for excellence, integrity and professionalism, and have 35 years of experience handling complex Family Law matters. I graduated from Rutgers School of Law in 1980 and then gained admittance to the Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California bars. I was formerly a Legal Aid attorney in the San Francisco area, and moved to San Diego in 1986 where I have exclusively practiced Family Law.
Divorce can be a challenging process, both emotionally and financially. Having litigated hundreds of Family Law matters, I have seen first hand the adverse affects traditional litigation has on divorcing families. The parties are usually left with a feeling of helplessness, frustration and anger, using valuable emotional and financial resources they will need to move on to the next chapter of their lives.
I help couples resolve difficult Family Law issues peacefully with alternatives to litigation. Family Law Mediation and Collaborative Divorce enable both parties to maintain control over the decision making process while reaching a cost-effective, family-oriented resolution.
Through mediation and the Collaborative Family my approach focuses on creative problem solving to reach peaceful resolutions. My process empowers clients to make informed decisions about their finances and their family.

Expert Mediator
Hildy's steadiness and guidance was very much appreciated. I let the process get the better of me and my behavior was not consistent of who I am but Hildy's kindness and patience was a reflection of who she is. I am thankful for her legal and mediation wisdom in a most difficult time in my life.

Amazing Mediator
Dealing with my wife would have been impossible without Hildy. She is a true impartial mediator and she did her best to ensure the fairest outcome for both of us, despite the somewhat contentious atmosphere. Hildy was well worth her fees. I highly recommend her.

Did not believe her client
Ms. Fentin was supposed to represent my child in a custody dispute. Hildy admitted that my child had told her about some of the abuse she experienced with the other parent, but stated that she did not believe her. My child suffered more abuse because of what Ms. Fentin did not "believe". This woman s...

More frustrating than it had to be
Hildy was recommended to me by my attorney as an excellent Mediation divorce attorney. My spouse and I met with her, and she seemed pleasant and competent enough, but she also said she would be clearly in our face if either of us got out of hand or acted in a way that would harm the mediation proces...
