LAW OFFICE OF ALEX SLIHEET
Alex T. Sliheet is an experienced attorney whose primary practice area involves representing plaintiffs in legal disputes with their employers regarding wages Mr. Sliheet is admitted to state and federal courts in California. He earned a Masters of Law degree in Employment Law, with Distinction, at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. He was first admitted to the Bar in California in 1991. Mr. Sliheet’s Juris Doctorate is from California Western School of Law, where he graduated cumlaude. In employment law, Mr. Sliheet chooses to represent employees only. He often selects cutting edge cases, regardless of their inherent difficulty. Mr. Sliheet has been particularly successful in this regard, having expanded the law in two significant areas: Mr. Sliheet presented oral argument to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Spriggs v. Diamond Auto Glass, 165 F.3d 1015 (4th Cir. January 28, 1999), which applied the protection of 42 U.S.C. section 1981 (prohibiting race discrimination) to at-will employment. Previously, the 4th Circuit had only applied section 1981 to employment law if the parties had a contractual relationship. Mr. Sliheet was lead counsel in Norden v. Samper, 503 F. Supp. 2d 130 (D.D.C. 2007). This case achieved an important victory by expanding the definition of disability to include sexual dysfunction. In financial elder abuse, as far back as 2007, Mr. Sliheet filed one of the first cases in California opposing the practice of manipulating seniors to use reverse mortgages to fund annuities (while at another firm). The U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Aging and Senator Claire McCaskill held hearings on the issue shortly thereafter. Mr. Sliheet provided Senator McCaskill’s office with assistance in this area. Mr. Sliheet is also a musician. He is an accomplished guitarist, talented singer, and composes nocturnes on the piano. Mr. Sliheet is an avid tennis player. He speaks English and Arabic.
