In January 2015, after 30 years of practice, Mark A. Maasch formed his own firm, Maasch Law, Inc., where his practice includes the areas of real property, business, construction, and financial matters, primarily focused on litigation in those areas.
Mr. Maasch graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1981. He attended the University of Notre Dame for two years, majoring in premedical studies (member Alpha Epsilon Delta - International Premedical Honor Society). He obtained his undergraduate degree in Economics (Member Omicron Delta Epsilon - International Economics Honor Society) from the University of Wisconsin in 1978. He was admitted to practice in Wisconsin in 1981 and in California in 1985. He is admitted in both federal and state courts.
Mr. Maasch was formerly a partner at Schall, Boudreau & Gore, where he served as lead counsel for the FSLIC, FDIC and RTC in major fraud, accounting malpractice and legal malpractice cases that resulted in settlements or judgments in excess of $20,000,000 on behalf of receiverships for failed thrifts. In 1995, Mr. Maasch and John M. Turner formed Turner & Maasch, Inc., and in 2015 Mr. Maasch established his own law corporation.
Mr. Maasch concentrates his practice in litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving breach of contract disputes, business torts, fraud, director and officer liability, attorney/accountant malpractice, antitrust, real estate and construction litigation. Mr. Maasch has successfully defended and prosecuted cases involving issues of antitrust, unfair competition, business torts, real estate broker liability, mortgage broker liability, successor lender liability, attorney malpractice, and consumer litigation. Mr. Maasch has been involved in several class action lawsuits as well, including claims against Microsoft Corp. (co-lead counsel for Wisconsin certified class - settlement valued at $224,000,000)), Coca-Cola Company, J.M. Smuckers Co., Ingersoll-Rand Co., Countrywide Financial, and Sony Entertainment.
Mr. Maasch had tried more than 40 cases to both juries and the bench, in both state and federal courts. He has also served as appellate counsel in several cases with three published decisions (Pillsbury v. Karmgard (1994) 22 743; Residential Capital v. Cal-Western Reconveyance Corp. (2003) 108 807; and Schweitzer v. Westminster Investments, Inc. (2007) 157 1195.
Mr. Maasch is a member of the State Bars of California (Litigation Section) and Wisconsin, and the American Bar Association. He enjoys Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating of AV Preeminent, and was recognized as one of San Diego’s TOP LAWYERS by San Diego Magazine for the years 2013 through 2020, and America’s Most Honored Professionals in the years 2018 - 2020.
