For the past 25 years, Martin Schmidt, has focused his law practice on helping injured victims against insurance companies who care about nothing more than their own bottom line.
Although he finished in the top 10% of his law school class, had won millions of dollars in compensation for injured victims, his real education began when he became a victim himself. “I was hurt in a bad car accident. Lying strapped to a stretcher in the back of a dark, claustrophobic ambulance, wondering what is happening to me, I thought about all the clients I have represented in similar situations. Did they feel this way? Where am I going? How hurt am I? Will I be able to work, pay the bills, or take care of my family?”
He eventually healed after several years of intense physical therapy, but he lost many days of enjoyment during that time. His battle with the insurance company was his most difficult fight. It was an insult to his injuries. Since then, every client he has had the privilege of representing puts him back in their shoes. Along the way, Mr. Schmidt won a verdict of $330, in a soft tissue injury case. The insurance company’s first offer was $3,. Schmidt won another substantial verdict where the first offer was $5,. He represented the mother of a college student killed in a car accident involving a United States Army recruiter while driving the student to a recruitment center. The government claimed the student had enlisted and the parents were not entitled to anything under the Soldiers Act. In the end, a substantial settlement was reached on the eve of trial.
Martin also successfully represented a woman in a medical malpractice case where the surgeon removed the wrong disc from her neck. He won a large confidential settlement from a Los Angeles County city where a child was killed when she ran into the street. A substantial confidential settlement was achieved for a woman who suffered severe burns in a fire at a hotel in downtown San Diego.
