Matthew C Binninger

Having practiced exclusively in the field of criminal defense for the past 12 years, Matthew C. Binninger is an experienced and dedicated advocate for the criminally accused. Nearly all of his work comes from the Superior Court of California and the Southern District of California.

After graduating from law school cum laude in 2009, Mr. Binninger was sworn into the California Bar in December 2009. He opened his own law office and worked on a variety of criminal cases in San Diego and around the country, including death-penalty-eligible cases, defending clients accused of murder, racketeering, and drug trafficking.

From 2011-2018, Mr. Binninger worked as a Trial Attorney for the Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc. In that position he handled hundreds of federal cases on behalf of the indigent. His compassionate and tireless approach to advocacy led to numerous dismissals, charge bargains to lesser offenses, diversionary dispositions, and victories at trial and on appeal.

In 2019, Mr. Binninger incorporated his law office in Little Italy, San Diego, specializing in federal criminal defense. He continues to represent those who cannot afford to pay for representation in federal court through the work he performs as a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel of qualified defense attorneys.

Mr. Binninger not only effectively advocates for but also genuinely cares about helping his clients assigned to him through the panel. He understands that being charged with a felony or a misdemeanor is a serious matter that can jeopardize a person’s freedom, reputation, and future job prospects, housing, etc. Knowing this, he strives to do everything in his power to help his clients navigate through trying times to achieve successful outcomes.

In addition to his work in the courtroom, Mr. Binninger has previously coached trial teams and taught trial skills as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, California Wester School of Law, a 100-year-old law school in San Diego.
