Exactly What I Needed

Wow!! Beth is exactly what I needed to save my career. She is extremely knowledgeable of military law, and a lawyer who gives it to you straight! I used her for my ADSEP process and she never once sugarcoated any of the process to include her recommendations, the possible outcome, and her plan of att...ack. Her attention to detail is second to none and somehow she seemed to always made time to speak with me when I had questions or concerns regarding my case. If she didn’t answer, she set a time so we can talk and called at the set time! Seeing her at work during the board was so comforting, because she honestly didn’t take any nonsense and regurgitated policies and MILPERSMAN to ensure for a fair process. My family and I are extremely grateful that we had the opportunity for Beth to represent us and forever thankful. To be real, SHE SAVED MY 24-YEAR CAREER! Thank you Beth for your honestly, genuineness, and grit during this process.

Marine Officer O-4 Receives Honorable rating and full benefits

Jag Defenders have certainly shown me and my family the value of never giving up and pushing through to persevere no matter how hard it may seem. Bethany was absolutely amazing in helping me for the past two years. I had served for over 20 years and went through a court martial and later a BOI wher...e I was discharged out of the USMC with an OTH. I had lost all my benefits and retirement, adding to it, job searching proved a real challenge. It was not easy for a while finding work and taking care of my family, but I knew that Bethany and her team were working hard behind the scenes. This is a long road, but one worth fighting for. In the end, she helped me get all my VA benefits, including my disability rating with back pay from my discharge date. She then succeeded in getting my OTH reversed to an Honorable status with a new DD-214. I gave over 20 years of service and now I have my honor restored, benefits obtained, and no fear when it comes to background checks or having to ever again explain why I did not have an honorable discharge. Words just cannot express enough my gratitude and appreciation for Bethany. Thank you so very much from me and my entire family.

Innocent Ingestion

On a drill weekend where I was meritoriously promoted, received Sailor of the Quarter, and where my mentor flew in to tack my rank on, I also popped hot for DAMP. I was spiraled for a month not knowing what to do. A buddy from a previous command gave me the contact for Bethany Payton-O'Brien, and... told me to contact her immediately. In less than an hour I was speaking with Bethany. Bethany was knowledgeable, highly competent, and most of all, she was sympathetic. I followed her directions and trusted the process. She gave me periodic updates and explained each step before moving forward. 4 months later I was cleared of wrongdoing in my case. I can and will recommend Bethany to other sailors who have had their world shaken and do not know where to turn.

Clear, Consistent, and Upfront.

I consulted with Bethany Payton-O’Brien after the Military\Government served me with a separation notice. After understanding and listening to my side of the situation. She clearly communicated the outcomes, and told me what I needed to hear. Not what I wanted to hear. When she’s in your corner you... can/WILL expect a timely response, forward moving, no nonsense and most of all, a Voice for yourself.!

"OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE! I've known and worked with Beth for over twenty years, to include serving as co-counsel on a murder trial. I've worked with her when she was a prosecutor, a defense counsel, a military judge and an appellate judge. She's one of the most passionate, most knowledgable, most skilled attorneys practicing military law! Her breadth of experience, coupled with her tenacity and willingness to do battle on behalf of her clients, makes her my "go-to" choice for anyone needing this type of assistance."

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"I've known Beth for over 20 years. We first met as opposing counsel back in Norfolk, Virginia. Although I was a defense counsel and she was a prosecuting attorney; it was clear that justice was her objective and we became close professional colleagues despite our opposing sides. Although our positions have changed over the years including tours as trial and appellate judges; two things that have never changed are her legal prowess and integrity. Beth is a talented litigator who knows a military courtroom and the courts-martial process. And she never wavers from doing what is right and providing the best representation for her client -- it is part of her DNA. Both these attributes made her formidable in her naval service and will serve her well as a civilian attorney."

"I wholeheartedly endorse this lawyer. Bethany was trial cousel on a number of cases against me in 2005-2006 while practicing military law in the Southeast. I have seen her in motions practice, direct and cross examination, and sentencing arguments. In each area she was supurb. She was extreemely tenatious and agressive, but wise enough to apply this to the right issue and at the right time. She was also open, receptive, and took the time to consider any and all matters I presented in mitigation and extenuation for my clients. Her knowledge of the law is exceptional and I cannot think of a better counsel to have worked against."
