PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS ATTORNEY!!!!

I paid Nathan Shilberg $834 to file a ch 7 bankruptcy for me. He has been paid in full for months. He never returns calls or emails. Finally, I started picking up the pace to contact him about filing my case. With no response, I've requested a refund from him several times. Never any response...a...nd just this past weekend his office phone and cell phone have been disconnected. I've had to contact the California State Bar and file a formal complaint against him. He has been suspended from practicing law in both California AND Connecticut for moral turpitude, misconduct and not paying his Bar membership fees. Go to the state Bar of Calif. website and read the discipline report that got him suspended for a year. He clearly has a history of unethical behavior and should be disbarred.

I agreed to accommodate this Complainant on a payment plan. She sent me postdated checks, replaced them, and asked me to hold final payment. Months afterwards, this Complainant signed all the bankruptcy paperwork, and I was ready to file it on her behalf. Apparently, because I didn't file her case the very next day, she became exceptionally demanding and made me the focal point of everything that had ever gone wrong with her life. There were no pending wage garnishments, bank levies, foreclosures or car repo's. In order to keep my prices as affordable as possible, admittedly, I don't have a staff to fire off an immediate response to every concern or inquiry. But I do respond. Although this Complainant's case was not particularly novel or complex, I nonetheless apologize for not giving her "concierge level" treatment. Still, I feel her comments are unfair in that I spent numerous hours looking up creditor addresses that were never provided to me in advance and researching her tax dischargeability questions. Clearly, this Complainant has an axe to grind with me, but I did nothing to deserve these unflattering remarks. I have serious doubts whether she would be satisfied with ANY attorney.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2013.

Suspension issued in CT, 2013

updated on 05/18/2016

This means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Nathan’s comment:

“The CT suspension was solely a result of the CA suspension (eg., "reciprocal discipline) and did not involve a separate case of misconduct.”

Discipline with Actual Suspension issued in CA, 2013

updated on 05/18/2016

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Nathan’s comment:

“Judge Miles did remark how hard I worked on this case and emphasized that the client was not harmed. He indicated that I was not motivated by selfish aims.”
