In September of 2013 I got arrested for a DUI. I got into an accident while driving a friend home and I blew a .09 when CHP arrived. More importantly my passenger was severely injured as a result breaking 6 ribs, broken sternum, broken clavicle, fractured vertebrae, fractured hip, and nerve damage in... her arm. The DA charged me with everything they could, Felony DUI resulting in Great Bodily Injury, and a Strike on my record. I was facing a possible 6 year prison sentence. I hired Michael Kern from a recommendation and I'm very glad I did. Michael was very knowledgeable on DUI cases, and assured me in our first meeting that he would do everything in his power to help me. He listened to my side of the story and immediately started breaking down the case against me. He gave me hope that I would be OK when I was very unsure what was to come. Michael was able to keep me from getting booked at my initial hearing, the first small victory. Since I never was booked due to being injured myself, I figured it was something I had to do, but Michael was able to have me released on my own recognizance. In the following months and court appearances Michael was able to negotiate with the DA and have the Great Bodily Injury and the Strike on my record removed as part of a plea bargain. I still pleaded guilty to the Felony, but the charges and time I was facing was less severe. As part of the deal I can still get the Felony dropped to a Misdemeanor once restitution is paid to the injured party. At my sentencing hearing I was ready to serve a mandatory sentence of at least 96 hours in custody as part of the plea deal, but Michael got that lowered to a book and release! Meaning I would only be in custody for a few hours. Not only that but I was sure that I would be receiving Formal Probation where I have a Probation Officer I have to report to every month, but Michael was able to get it dropped down to summary probation, which is much less intrusive if at all. All in all I feel like Michael pitched a perfect game with my case. Yes I still have a Felony but I only have myself to blame for that, and I have the chance to get it dropped to a Misdemeanor. Without Michael's help I believe the outcome of my case would be very different. I would definitely recommend Michael to anyone facing DUI charges, and I would certainly use Michael's services in the future if I need to. Thanks again Michael!
