When the Montebello Unified School District hired the law firm of Jimmy Gutierrez, we were already involved in a pending litigation matter with a general contractor who had a history of suing school districts, for general contract work. As a Board of Education we were not satisfied with the direction... the lawsuit was headed under a previous firm, in other words, if we where to lose, our school district could be liable for millions. In a matter of several weeks after retaining Mr. Gutierrez's law firm, as a result of their professional and legal expertise and general contract knowledge, our school district prevailed and ended up winning the case and we saved millions of dollars to the tax-payers. In my 23 years as a member of the board of education, this was a milestone and historic verdict in favor of our school district. While this law suit occurred years ago, many of us still talk about this case as a lesson to be learned from when dealing with difficult general school contractors.
