John Higgins Sommers

John H. Sommers, Esq. is a prominent litigation attorney with more than 20 years of legal experience in both criminal defense and civil litigation.  He has aggressively litigated cases on behalf of thousands of clients during his career.  Mr. Sommers has developed a reputation of being honest, forthright, and civil, while also being a tenacious fighter for his clients’ interests.

Mr. Sommers earned his B.A. degree in History from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1994.  He received his J.D. degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1998. 

Mr. Sommers founded the Law Offices of John H. Sommers, a firm dedicated to representing individuals arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and misdemeanor and felony criminal charges.  He personally handles hundreds of DUI cases per year and can be found defending his clients' rights each day in multiple Southern California courts.  As a skilled litigator and negotiator, Mr. Sommers has developed strong professional relationships with the judges and prosecutors throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County, Riverside County, and Ventura County.  

Prior to establishing the Law Offices of John H. Sommers, Mr. Sommers was a founding partner of Parker & Sommers, LLP, which represented businesses and insurance companies in all areas of civil litigation and transactional work.  Mr. Sommers was responsible for overseeing the firm’s Los Angeles-based litigation team which successfully handled thousands of cases through settlement, arbitration, and trial.  Mr. Sommers’ personal clients included several of the nation's leading insurance companies, whose insureds he defended in commercial claims, automobile claims, premises liability claims, homeowner claims, and claims involving insurance fraud.  Mr. Sommers also frequently lectured to insurance companies and related insurance associations on general liability defense, compliance, and other insurance related topics.

Mr. Sommers began his legal career as a litigation associate with Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O'Keefe & Nichols, a leading Southern California medical malpractice defense firm.  He also worked as a litigation associate for Manning & Marder, Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, a large Los Angeles civil litigation defense firm. 

 While pursuing his J.D., Mr. Sommers served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Kathleen T. Lax of the United States Bankruptcy Court.  In addition, he worked as a certified law clerk for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. 

Mr. Sommers is admitted to practice law in all California State Courts and the Central District of the Federal Court, as evidence by his state bar profile.

Along with his professional accomplishments, Mr. Sommers was named an All-American NCAA Division I track and field athlete at UCLA.  In 1996, he qualified for the United States Olympic Trials in track and field.
