Worth Every Penny

After a lengthy battle with a deadbeat Robert Holmes was able to get the back spousal and child support I deserved. I recommend him in any high conflict situation. He does not sugarcoat words. He tells you the truth. If you are looking for a "warm and fuzzy" personality this is not the attorney for... you. However, if you need an aggressive highly respected litigator you would be foolish not to hire him. He is worth every penny.

Excellent Results

After mediation with another, less experienced attorney completely broke down, my process was in limbo for months...until one morning when I received a knock on my door was served with a package nearly 2" thick. I opened it up trying to make sense of what I believe was an intentionally messy package... of documents, and then realized that I had a court hearing about 3 weeks away (OSC - Order to Show Cause) along with a host of intrusive and confusing documents. I was angry, worried, and unsure how to respond - I needed help. After calling several people in my network for a referral, I made an appointment to go meet with Robert Holmes. I retained him within a few days after our consultation, and it was the best move I could've made. Robert is not your friend - he's your lawyer. Direct, honest, accurate - zero drama. Email communications are brief, and to the point (in bold blue font). He is efficient, does not fee churn, and provided guidance as to how to save money on fees during the process. His legal fees were actually less than the opposition, did significantly more work, and I was much better prepared than my Ex...and my results were measurably better. I believe Robert did a very good job of not only setting the expectation, but meeting it. Robert is very ethical and did an excellent job of protecting my legal interests throughout the process. My case lasted over 3 years and went all the way to trial (me on the stand) before the judge rescheduled due to time constraints. Prior to the next trial date we negotiated the dissolution. When it was finalized, the numbers were literally within a few dollars per month of what he calculated at our initial consultation - I appreciated that kind of accuracy. I have a fair custody arrangement, I kept my home, two thirds of my 401k, and all of the assets that were important to me. I know for a fact that the money I paid for his legal representation was one of the best investments I could have ever made.

Dismissive, Passive, ineffective

I met him at his office several times and every time he put me down and used profanity. Mr. Holmes is highly disrespectful. Judgmental without reason from day one. Very dismissive, forgetful, passive, lacks any strategy fitted for today's court rooms. I made a catastrophic mistake by hiring him a...nd his firm. He failed to fulfil his fiduciary duty toward me. I paid him to protect me, and he ended up covering for his reputation against the court nepotism. He chose to please the Judge and preserve his relationship than protecting me as a client. He never puts up a real fight, and regardless of his knowledge, it would be waste of time and money in today's court room. The culture of the court, politics of the law, quality of judges and attorneys has changed from 40 years ago. If your attorney cannot fight the fire with fire, or at least equal force, you are in the wrong hands. And they are definitely the wrong choice. The opposing attorney used such a dishonest and misleading tactics to create a bias and Mr. Holmes failed to have any strategy. He let's you burn in fire because he does not care and he is tired. Mr. Holmes your knowledge is not power, but rather a potential to power when there is lack of strategy or will power to fight for your client. When you are facing cunning and dishonest tactics by a non-family law opposing council, Robert Holmes is absolutely the wrong attorney to represent you. He and his team were a genuine failure. They are GREAT paper pushers but not competent attorneys in fighting the fight, simply because they are passive. They are no match when facing a dishonest and aggressive attorney that is hungry for money. They couldn't even gather financial evidence from the opposing side despite how much they tried. They did not utilize any court remedies such as sanctions. The opposing side kept violating the law and court orders and sadly they are not fit to perform. I made a mistake hiring a firm that cannot fight to even enforce court orders. He never did proper investigation or presentation of evidence to the judge. He is too worried about the judge's opinion about him than saving his client. Getting justice or getting ahead in court with Holmes and his firm is not a very feasible option, because simply he does not care to put an equal or decisive fight on your behalf. You will be set for failure. Avoid him and his firm.

Divorce

Mr. Holmes failed to protect me because, in his own words, he was bored with my case. He passed my case to junior attorney in his firm after collecting some 80k $ from me. Then gave me bad financial guidance which cost me 10s of thousands in additional taxes. At that point I found new counsel. What a... difference a good attorney makes. Also he is now suing me for an additional 23k $.....I will go to arbitration on this. And with all this money spent, iam still not divorced....also have paid almost 100k to opposing counsel....I feel like a milked cow...

Some clients do things to hurt themselves and their cases, that are beyond the control of the lawyers. Some clients make bad choices before and during their divorce cases. There is only so much a lawyer can do.

I would never recommend this attorney

Robert Holmes said he would help me with my divorce case because my three prior attorney's failed to resolve my case. The last being from his office. I paid a retainer to Mr Holmes office and the only thing his associate did for me was get my spousal support removed and then I never heard from him ...again. After waiting three months for him to answer my calls Mr Holmes called, apologized, then told me that his associate had left the firm and they didn't know where he was. At my initial meeting with Mr Holmes I was promised a quick and end to my horrible divorce. I never heard from him again and he gave my case to a new attorney in his office who got the job done but charged me money I didn't owe. He already had a retainer from me and wouldn't show me the hours this associate worked. I should have been reimbursed not charged more. I would never recommend Mr Holmes to anyone for any reason.

I do not believe this "review" was written by any former client of mine. I can't recall ever representing a client who had "three prior lawyers" that he was complaining about! I suspect this is from an unhappy party who was on the other side of one of our cases in the past.
