PROCEED WITH CAUTION

My family and I hired Ms. Eagle in my ADW case. Unfortunately, due to our lack of knowledge for the legal system, (being that no one in my family was ever in any legal trouble before), we entrusted Ms. Eagle to represent me in my case. Long story short, I was WRONGFULLY convicted for a 5 year term d...ue to her "INNEFECTIVE COUNSEL". Thankfully, due to my newly hired attorney, my appeal was granted. Anyone can Google "state vs. Ontiveros" and see for themselves that she WAS RECOMMENDED TO BE DISCIPLINED/REPORTED TO THE STATE BAR. Her lack of basic knowledge for the law pertaining to my particular case was overwhelming. -And her courtroom experience was surely minimal as she was ridiculed through out my entire trial. She might do ok with DUI cases but not much more. *I urge anyone who values their freedom to do their research. Do not rely solely on reviews!!

Although Ms. Eagle has chosen not to respond to Mr. Ontiveros’ facetious claims, I WILL AS I WAS CO-COUNSEL in this case from its inception. My name is Linda VanWinkle. I practiced with the Orange County Public Defender’s office for approx. 22 years, during which time I tried hundreds of cases. During this time, one of my jobs was to train attorneys. In the course of my career I never encountered a client who was as uncooperative, angry, and hostile as Ontiveros. On several occasions in the courthouse hallway, he told his mother to “shut up!” Went so far as to pinch her, and even though I told him it was in his best interests to treat his mother with respect and kindness, and attempt to look pleasant, he chose to scowl—all of this in the presence of the very jurors who were going to decide his assault with a deadly weapon case. I could go on regarding the innumerable hours invested in Ontiveros’ case, including opening my home on evenings and weekends to work with him, enlisting the help of a male attorney with whom we hoped Ontiveros would bond, all to no avail. Furthermore, he displayed the same abrasive behavior when he testified. His hostile demeanor on the stand was verified when I personally witnessed his mother say to him, “You appeared so angry on the stand!” As a practicing defense attorney of some 22 years, and as the attorney who sat next to Ms Eagle throughout this trial, I can attest that Ontiveros’ assertion that Ms. Eagle was ridiculed at this trial is completely false. Not only was she respected throughout the trial, she was complimented for the job she did (including from the jury when I personally spoke with them at the conclusion of the trial) given the client and the facts we had to work with. Ontiveros’ assertion that Ms. Eagle lacked experience is false as well. During my career as a public defender, I was in the courtroom on a daily basis and observed Ms. Eagle in trial on many occasions. I found her to be skilled, highly competent and respected by the court as well as the district attorney. As a result, on two occasions I asked if she would be interested in joining the Public Defender’s Office as I believed she would be an asset to our office. However, at the time she had a thriving criminal defense practice so she declined. At the time of the Ontiveros trial, Ms. Eagle had been exclusively practicing criminal defense for over 15 years. Regarding defendant’s appeal, the Appellate Court was provided with only those arguments favorable to the defendant. Defense counsel was not afforded the opportunity to respond. One of the crucial facts not provided to the Appellate Court is that the character witnesses who would testify on Ontiveros’ behalf contacted attorney Eagle and myself on the eve of trial indicating if called to testify, their testimony would be more harmful than favorable. Although Ontiveros Appellate lawyer was provided with that info, he failed to present that info to the court. However, the State Bar did a thorough investigation allowing Ms. Eagle an opportunity to respond to the allegations against her and concluded no disciplinary action was warranted. It should be noted that the “WRONGFULLY CONVICTED” Ontiveros PLEAD GUILTY (no contest) to the same charges for which he was originally convicted. To conclude, as someone who trained attorneys for the Public Defender’s Office and having tried a multitude of cases myself, if I or someone I loved needed defense counsel, there are a handful of defense lawyers I would recommend—with Ms. Eagle at the top of that list!

DUI

Rondee needs to get her DUI side of things refreshed and updated. Don't tell me i wont be going to jail or that i wont even "get out of my cloth". I spent 8 days in jail; I got my girlfriends $200 sunglasses stolen at her office; well; Bruce's office; which she says it's her office. I went to Bruce... Bridgeman's office and was then told Rondee would be taking my case....Since the start i wasn't kept informed; I even showed up to court the first day because I never received a call from her. i didn't see her caring much about my case. It's sad to work with someone who you PAY and get your hopes up and think everything will be alright when it's not. Maybe DUI's aren't very important to her; to me it was VERY important. Don't play with peoples minds or emotions or give hope. Just be up front with me.

I know Ms. Eagle as an associate and colleague. In fact, I refer all of my DUI clients to her office for representation because of her knowledge and compassion. She, after ten years, has yet to disappoint me or my clients. I know that you, this client, had 2 DUI's and had all fines converted to jail time. You should be grateful to Ms. Eagle that you only had an 8-day commitment after receiving your 2nd DUI and walked out owing nothing to the court as it relates to your fines.
