My 77 year old father had his diverse license suspended for the first time in his life due to a comment made by his wife to their medical doctor, my father wasn't even present. Their Russian born doctor didn't realize that would happen and apologized even though by law she was required to fill out th...e form- it's a relatively new requirement if I understand correctly. My father was very upset. The stress alone could cause his words to stumble, others could misattribute it to cognitive problems if they were primed to do so. He explained the procedure and answered questions my father had in the days leading up to the hearing with the DMV officer. He explained, it's not a court, your not on the witness stand, it's not adversarial environment, the hearing officer is not an attorney and other things that really help put the situation in its proper context. My father said, the hearing officer didn't get one important medical evaluation that he sent and the officer offered to continue anyway with out it but that Mr. Franklin took charge as the medical evaluation was good evidence in favor of my father and he requested to pause the meeting to resolve the issue. After resuming, Mr. Franklin was able to ask my father questions which guided him step by step during the hearing; helping my father during his stressful moments. In the end, the hearing officer said they have no problems reinstating my fathers drivers licensee. Having Jonathan Franklin on my Fathers side like this representing him made all the difference. Our family is thankful and my father is smiling again.
