Colette Teresa Davis

Colette T. Davis obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University, School of Law, cum laude, in Los Angeles, California and Bachelors of Arts from California State University, Los Angeles. Ms. Davis is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and California, including the United States District Court in California and North Carolina.

During Ms. Davis’ 23 years of practice, she has spent 20 years as an entrepreneur managing a private practice. Ms. Davis’ firm focuses on Probate, Estate Planning, Guardianship and Conservatorship law. The firm handles cases in both California and North Carolina, administering probate estates, advising clients on building and maintaining estates, tailoring estate plans to meet client’s specific needs, while educating client on how to pass wealth and build a future for their loved one.   Ms. Davis also works extensively with caregivers and the individuals who find themselves in need of care.  While working as an advocate for seniors, disable persons and incapacitated individuals in her private practice, Ms. Davis spent 10 years protecting the financial, personal and civil rights of minors, seniors and disabled individuals in guardianship and conservatorship proceedings through Court appointments.

Whether counseling small business owners on succession planning so the business will not die with the founder, or advising a bankruptcy client how to recover and thrive after bankruptcy, Ms. Davis has spent her legal career assisting families in building and preserving legacies for generations to come, while focusing on family care and providing for loved ones that are currently in need of assistance. 

In addition to her practice, Ms. Davis has taught Wills, Trusts and Estates  and Bankruptcy for the National Bar Association Paralegal program at CPCC. She also lectures and participates in workshops on elder and disabled care planning, starting and maintaining a small business, preserving and transferring family wealth and consumer bankruptcy relief in person and through several radio and television programs. 

Ms. Davis is currently managing the Law Office of Colette T. Davis, PLLC where she continues her focus on maintaining and preserving family wealth through estate planning, seniors’ rights, small business matters and bankruptcy relief.   In addition to managing her practice, she spends time giving back to her community by volunteering with the Mecklenburg Bar through various committees and with Crossroads Charter School as a Board member.  She is a former Board member of Girl Talk Foundation and currently serves on a committee for Girl Talk Foundation.  Ms. Davis also volunteered with Hospice Palliative Care, Charlotte Region for 5 years, previously served on the Executive Committee of the Probate Division of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and Judicial Committee with Black Women Lawyers of Los Angeles.  In addition to her membership in the North Carolina and California State Bars, Ms. Davis is a member and participates in a number of other bar association in North Carolina and California.
