Great Attorney

I hired Mac MacPherson after I closed my business. I needed legal advice on several matters as well as legal representation on a lawsuit that was filed. I felt that Mac went above and beyond what some may think is normal to protect me, my family, and my rights. I think he is very good at what he d...oes and is not afraid to push the envelope or challenge anything. I am very happy with the services that I received. Also, I have worked for Mac’s law firm as a paralegal for over 25 years and thus know about his background and service to both his country and his many satisfied clients, in both civil and criminal tax cases. Mac’s aggressive approach to serious legal problems reflects his background, which includes West Point, Airborne, Ranger, Infantry, Jump Master, Special Forces, and 18 months of Vietnam combat as a Platoon Leader and Company Commander. In fact, as I well know from my work on the case, Mac applied his “legal engineering,” aggressive approach in the case of Andrew, who filed with this site his negative comments, failing to mention that Mac (a) researched and recommended a “black-ops” approach - a surreptitious tape recording of Andrew’s accountant as permitted by law in some but not all states - for protecting Andrew against his accountant who cost Andrew $200k; and (b) returned to Andrew $10k of the $20k paid, even though nothing was legally or ethically required. The vast majority of attorneys will not recommend surreptitious recordings, yet I know that in another case Mac succeeded in having a federal criminal investigation dropped because his clients recorded their former attorneys, who later lied to IRS about the facts. The recording evidenced the lies. Andrew - faced with possible civil and/or criminal investigation - failed to mention the importance and result of Mac’s service. “No pancake is so thin that it does not have two sides.”

Unreasonable Fees for Services, in our opinion

We contracted with The MacPherson Group to take over a tax appeal and perform other related services. Unfortunately we feel as if we've had a very poor outcome from our dealings with them. Donald MacPherson suggested a specific tactic to collect evidence relevant to our case, which we agreed coul...d be effective. He mentioned he may have to conduct some research into the tactic's admissibility in court, but we never imagined that such research would amount to over 25% of our $20,000 advance fee paid to him. We felt that this was an incredibly high price for some rudimentary legal research on a tactic he himself had advised us to employ, and when we received the invoice with the price tag for said research we were shocked and felt betrayed. We discharged the MacPherson Group as soon as we were able to get him on the phone after that initial invoice, as we wanted to stop the financial bleeding. We are still in the process of trying to get the rest of our 'advance fee' returned to us, as in our opinion even the meager services we were provided were not reasonably priced. In our opinion, you should beware this attorney. He employs a 'non-refundable, earned-when-paid' advance fee scheme that is strongly discouraged by some state bars, as they are misleading and can cause a chilling effect on a client's choice to leave an attorney if he feels he wants to discharge the attorney for any reason. Now we are out the funds we had set aside for legal representation for our tax appeal, and have to contest with this attorney to hopefully get even a token amount of our advance fee returned. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere if you need an advocate.

Relationship: Worked together on matter

"Mac is one of a vanishing breed. He is doggedly devoted to his clients, tenacious in his representation, and brilliantly strategic. Mac and I first worked together on a criminal defense case over a decade ago, and he has been a valued sounding board to brainstorm my toughest cases ever since. Just when it looks like there is no good answer, Mac comes up with something no one else could. I eagerly endorse this lawyer."
