As a parent, I understand the importance of parental rights and the need to put the interests of the children first and foremost. When parents have other priorities and ignore their parental responsibilities, the children suffer. Abusive or neglectful parents should not be tolerated. The other parent, grandparents, aunts and uncles must step up and attempt to sever the biological parent's rights and adopt the children in those instances. If the extended family is unwilling or unavailable, foster parents may take the place of biological parents to provide the children with a safe, secure, loving and permanent home. I have litigated thousands of these cases, in most Arizona counties, as a private attorney and also as an Assistant Arizona Attorney General.
